POSITION OVERVIEW:

Seeking a Lead Data Engineer with experience in the financial services sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing the new generation of data movement solutions using state of the art technologies to feed our data warehouse and the various downstream bank applications. The candidate will also provide support for post deployment related activities when needed and will be responsible for delivering results in a timely manner using Agile methodologies. This position serves a crucial role in collaborating with business, technology, and cross-functional teams. The individual will collaborate with these teams to implement and manage comprehensive data engineering and architecture strategies and develop an enterprise-wide data operating model that covers people, processes, technology, and governance. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of executing data loads and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and maintain automated processes for routine data tasks, enhancing productivity through streamlined operations.
Provide technical guidance on data movement related issues.
Become the data movement SME on different banking data domains.
Support transformation processes towards a data centric culture.
Perform data analysis and source to target mappings.
Use a mix of open source and proprietary tools to create data driven products and solutions.
Identify, design and implement process improvements.
Implement, maintain and extend best practices and assets in line with market standards and guidelines.
Provide robust application support, collaborating closely with development teams.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues that affect application performance.
Participate in continuous process improvement.
Create documentation and training for routine database administration activities.
Identify problem trends and proactively take action to reduce incidents.
Proactively monitor and report on system resources and capacity planning. Provide early warning of resource contentions and shortages to management with recommended course of action.
Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
Provide support outside of normal office hours on a pre-planned basis and at short notice in emergency situations.

Monitor and assess data quality across various systems and databases, identifying areas for improvement and implementing measures to enhance data accuracy and consistency.
Collaborate with Business Intelligence and Analytics, and Data Governance teams to develop and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and documentation and to define and manage metadata standards, taxonomies, and ontologies to facilitate effective data classification, search, and retrieval.

Participate in data access and security reviews to ensure compliance with data governance policies and prepare documentation for internal and external audits.

Establish and maintain metadata repositories and catalogs, ensuring consistent documentation of data assets, relationships, and lineage for a clear understanding of data flow and dependencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering, architecture, and integration.
5 years of experience with data management tools, metadata repositories, and data modeling concepts.
Proficiency in SQL and PowerShell scripting.
Experience working with SQL Server, Windows Server, including Active Directory.
Proven ability to build relationships with peers and customers.
Excellent documentation skills, leading to the development of effective standard operating procedures.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
Ability to organize and plan work independently in a demanding environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the banking industry.
Experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
Knowledge of relevant data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and their impact on data governance practices.
Familiarity with risk and control frameworks, including ISO, NIST, and COBIT.
Experience in Python and/or Java.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Noise levels are usually moderate. This position involves travel to customers and property locations.
