    Role Overview

    The Senior Director of Development & External Affairs will lead all national fundraising operations, owning TKH’s revenue growth strategy with an ambitious vision. This role is responsible for securing and expanding funding streams from public sources, foundations, corporations, and donor-advised funds across all markets, including New York City, Atlanta, Newark, Los Angeles, and the DC/Maryland region. The Director will be the primary driver of prospect identification, solicitation, and long-term stewardship to ensure sustained and increasing funding levels. TKH adapts to changing circumstances and priorities, making job expectations dynamic. This description outlines essential functions but does not limit the tasks that may be assigned:

    Leadership & Fundraising Strategy (50%)

    • Lead all fundraising efforts, ensuring revenue growth that aligns with TKH’s expansion and impact goals.
    • Own and execute a national fundraising strategy, securing multi-year institutional funding and forging high-impact corporate partnerships.
    • Lead the fundraising team to exceed financial goals, ensuring high-quality execution of fundraising tactics.
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight of institutional fundraising, including government grants, foundation partnerships, and corporate giving.
    • Oversee all aspects of donor stewardship, ensuring strong retention and sustained revenue growth.
    • Collaborate closely with the Board and executive leadership to align fundraising with organizational strategy and impact objectives.

    Prospect Development & Institutional Giving (30%)

    • Drive proactive prospect identification and cultivation efforts, targeting high-value funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
    • Lead the development and execution of compelling grant proposals in coordination with program teams and grant writers.
    • Expand corporate giving programs, leveraging partnerships to create employment pathways, volunteer initiatives, and funding opportunities.
    • Oversee business development partnerships and ensure corporate relationships contribute meaningfully to revenue and strategic goals.

    Government & Public Sector Funding (15%)

    • Lead strategy and execution for securing competitive public sector funding, including identifying and responding to new grant and contract opportunities.
    • Oversee the development and submission of high-quality public sector proposals, ensuring compliance and alignment with funding priorities.
    • Manage relationships with key government agencies and funding bodies to expand TKH’s public sector funding portfolio.

    Special Events & Donor Engagement (5%)

    • Oversee the planning and execution of high-impact fundraising events that cultivate and steward institutional donors and corporate sponsors.
    • Ensure that special events align with revenue generation strategies and deepen donor engagement.

    Qualifications

    Experience

    • 6+ years of fundraising experience in a professional nonprofit setting
    • A track record of success leading and managing a diverse team. You love building team
    • culture, mentoring and coaching, and helping everyone exceed their goals on deadline
    • and grow into new levels of leadership.
    • Demonstrated track record of generating revenue from a variety of sources, including
    • individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Experience exceeding fundraising goals for a national organization with at least a $7M
    • budget.
    • Experience cultivating internal and external constituencies and building long-term
    • relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in CRM and communication tools including PowerPoint, Google Drive, social
    • media, Salesforce, HubSpot, Classy, Canva, etc.
    • Prior experience in STEM, workforce development, or the education field is a plus.

    • Ability to work both independently with a minimum of supervision and effectively lead a
    • team, including efficiently delegating tasks and monitoring staff and consultant
    • performance.
    • Ability to travel occasionally and participate in frequent evening and weekend activities
    • for work-related purposes.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Hybrid Work at TKH

    All full-time staff are expected to come into a TKH office or the field (community and industry events, including conferences or travel for work) 1-2 days per week, and the Leadership Team will be encouraged to come into a TKH office at least two times per week. There will be one consistent team day a week that will vary by team. Please note that there are some roles that may require being on-site more based on the job responsibilities.

    In addition to the 1 team day, there will be weeks when the expectation is 2 days/week based on required meetings. These may include all staff meetings, department stepbacks, professional development, retreats, events, or other purposeful reasons, as requested by your supervisor or team lead.
