Summary
The People & Culture (HR) Generalist supports all People Operations functions within the businesses of The Rose, Secret Sister, Mabel’s Gone Fishing, and Bodega Rosette. This role provides comprehensive HR support with an emphasis on payroll and benefits administration, compliance, recruiting coordination, and employee engagement for 80+ employees in a fast-paced hospitality environment. This is an onsite position based at our locations in North and South Park.

Responsibilities

Payroll, Benefits, & Employee Information Administration
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of two bi-weekly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees, including management of deductions such as taxes, benefits, and garnishments. Ensure accurate accounting and disbursement of tips and commissions.
• Verify timesheets, track overtime, and partner with managers to ensure compliance with labor regulations.
• Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement plans), including enrollment, changes, and terminations.
• Track and manage employee leave (sick leave, vacation, FMLA, etc.), ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
• Handle new hire paperwork, including I-9s, W-4s, contracts, and other necessary documentation, ensuring all information is accurately uploaded into HRIS systems.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, performance reviews, employee changes such as raises and promotions, disciplinary actions and termination.

HR Policies & Compliance
• Stay updated on federal, state, and local labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, overtime, and employee rights. Update Employee Handbook as required.
• Promote a safe working environment and partner with managers and staff to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Maintain records of safety training and accident reports.
• Prepare and file any necessary reports (e.g. workers comp, Form 5500, ACA, EEO, EDD reports, etc.)

Recruiting Coordination
• Support full cycle recruiting for positions throughout the company including post job openings, review resumes, conducting screening interviews, coordinating with managers on hiring process, and preparing offers.
• Ensure job descriptions are up-to-date and clearly reflect the responsibilities of each position.
• Assist with new employee onboarding, including new hire docs and ensuring they are familiar with relevant policies and procedures.

Managerial Support & Collaboration
• Support managers in conducting and documenting conversations related to employee relations and disciplinary action in a timely fashion
• Coordinate semi-annual performance review process
• Compile and present HR-related reports in manager and all employee meetings
• Collaborate with leadership and ownership to ensure that operational practices align with policies and are properly documented in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Support managers in various administrative projects as needed

Employee Engagement
• Help foster a positive work environment by assisting with team-building activities, surveys, and feedback initiatives.
• Conduct exit interviews for departing employees to gather feedback and improve employee retention.
• Assist in developing programs to recognize employee achievements and create a positive workplace culture.
• Plan and organize an annual holiday party.

Required Skills

• Have a working knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, HRIS/payroll systems and POS systems

• Adjust communication style as necessary to cultivate a results driven team
• Written and verbal ability to communicate in Spanish is strongly preferred

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years HR experience, with non-exempt payroll experience
• 2 years working experience in a restaurant environment
• Strong working knowledge of Federal, CA and SD employment laws, with emphasis on wage & hour compliance
• Basic knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, CalSavers, and Health Care Reform
• Experience administering leaves of absence related to FMLA, CFRA, PDL.
• Demonstrated experience and success in interpreting, analyzing, advising on, and implementing policies, procedures, and regulations related to all facets of human resources administration.
• Participation in the CalJobs Training Grant (if applicable)
