Bicycle Mechanic and Delivery Coordinator

What We Need

Cascade Bicycle Club is seeking to hire a Bicycle Mechanic and Delivery Coordinator. The Bicycle Mechanic and Delivery Coordinator will serve this dynamic, well-established, and respected organization by demonstrating a passion for bicycling and for growing the influence and impact in pursuing the organization's mission.

Reporting to the Procurement and Distribution Manager, the Bicycle Mechanic and Delivery Coordinator contributes to the success of Cascade’s Statewide Education programs through careful assembly and maintenance of bicycles and equipment, delivery of bicycle fleets to schools throughout the Puget Sound region, and assistance with supply and logistics inside Cascade Bicycle Club’s off-site warehouse space and main office.

By the end of the year, this position will have:

• Assembled 950 fleet bikes
• Assisted in logistics of 3,400 bikes going directly to youth
• Equipped 25 cargo trailers for bike storage

Cascade Bicycle Club, the nation's largest statewide bicycle nonprofit, is 9,000-members, 55-years old, and 42-staff strong, serving bike riders of all ages and abilities throughout the state of Washington. We teach the joys of bicycling, advocate for safe places to ride, and produce community rides and events. Our signature programs include the Seattle to Portland ride, the Pedaling Relief Project, advocacy for connected trail networks and on-street bike networks in Seattle and across the Puget Sound Region, Your Streets Your Say, Free Group Rides, Adult Classes, Let's Go, and the Major Taylor Project.

The Education team shares the joy of cycling with learners of all ages. We are dedicated to creating, sharing, and improving programs that are inclusive, impactful, and responsive to our diverse community.

Within the Education department, this position will work within the Statewide School-Based Grant team. The Statewide School-Based Bicycle Safety Education Program, created as part of Move Ahead Washington legislation, includes two programs: One for elementary and middle school students (grades 3-8) to be implemented in school physical education classes, and another for middle and high school youth (grades 6-12) to be implemented out of school or after school. The purpose is “to develop students’ skills and street safety knowledge to be more confident bicyclists for transportation and/or recreation.”

What You’ll Bring

Duties and Responsibilities

• Fleet Assembly and Maintenance- 70%
  • Assemble bikes for the expansion of CBC education programs.
  • Assist with outfitting enclosed cargo trailers for bicycle storage, as part of expanding statewide programming.
  • Assist with the flow of bicycles and accessory inventory through Cascade’s off-site warehouse space, as well as storage spaces at Cascade’s main office.
• Logistics and Delivery to Statewide Education Partners- 20%
  • Coordinate distribution, delivery, and support of bicycles, trailers, and supplies for Cascade program expansion to school districts across Washington.
  • Work with education staff to coordinate storage and inventory of bikes and equipment.
  • Work with program managers and Education Director to procure and distribute tools and parts for departmental and organization-wide programming.
• General Support- 10%
  • Provide support for other programming within Cascade Bicycle Club, including the Seattle to Portland ride, Seattle to Vancouver ride, Major Taylor Project rides, and Bike Swap.
  • Participate in monthly staff days at the main Cascade office.

Qualifications

• Bicycle maintenance experience is required. Professional experience is preferred.
• Experience safely driving commercial vehicles and towing a trailer, including complex backing and parking maneuvers, or willingness to learn.
• Experience using Excel or Google Sheets to organize data and track project progress.
• Valid WA Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs in the form of moving bicycles to/from storage or on/off trucks and trailers.

Job Details

This position is full-time, hourly, non-exempt and will primarily take place in-person. The Bicycle Mechanic and Delivery Coordinator is a very hands-on position, with a mix of bicycle repair work and driving occupying 75% of the work week. This position will routinely work 40 hours per week with work days consistently starting at 8 a.m. Job duties will primarily take place at an off-site warehouse space located at Saltbox, in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. To a lesser degree, job duties will also take place at the main Cascade office in Magnuson Park, as well as bicycle delivery assistance to various school districts throughout Washington. Some evenings will be required, as well as occasional overnight travel during the fleet delivery cycle, from September-November.
