    Description

    Role Overview:

    The Voting Rights Lab is seeking a Senior Director of Development (West Coast Major Gifts) to grow our major gifts fundraising from donors on the West Coast over the coming years so that we can continue to expand our work to secure, protect and defend voting rights for all Americans.

    This role will be responsible for managing a portfolio of major gifts and foundation grants of $10,000 and up. The Senior Director of Development (West Coast Major Gifts) will report to the Chief Development Officer and be part of a three-person development team.

    Bay Area/Northern California applicants preferred. Travel will be required throughout the west coast region.

    Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

    Donor Cultivation (80%)

    • Personally develop, cultivate, steward and solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects with a focus on individuals and foundations with the capacity to give six-and seven-figure gifts
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and manage their fundraising efforts, including oversight of scheduling, coordinating donor meetings, and facilitating follow-up

    Material Preparation (10%)

    • Oversee the creation of materials and other collaterals in support of fundraising, including proposals, solicitations, reports, appeal letters, presentations and more.

    Management and Strategy (10%)

    • Work within the Development Team to build out a major gifts-giving pipeline and moves management system for their donors. Use strategies that encourage retention and upgrades to hit and exceed annual goals
    • Follow standard practices for identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of major donors. Suggest and implement changes to improve practices.

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant fundraising experience (with both individuals and foundations) with a proven track record of hitting fundraising goals through personal solicitations.
    • Significant development experience with emphasis on donor cultivation, prospect research on major gifts solicitation, including demonstrated success in direct solicitation of 6-7 figure gifts
    • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to expand major gifts program including developing materials, tracking, stewardship, solicitation and closing
    • Experienced and adept project manager who is organized, resourceful, and flexible.
    • Experience working with diverse communities and committed to acting on the belief that racial equity and social justice are critical components of our work.

    The Senior Director of Development (West Coast Major Gifts) is in the Senior Director pay band, and the hiring range for this position is $128,000-$170,000 per year. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The total compensation package may include the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
