    INTAKE COORDINATOR

    PUBLIC PROTECTION & ADVOCACY BUREAU

    CIVIL RIGHTS DIVISION

    The Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as an Intake Coordinator in the Civil Rights Division. The successful candidate will be committed to the mission of the Division, which is to protect and advance the constitutional and statutory civil rights and liberties of residents and visitors to the Commonwealth. The Division works to prevent and remedy discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics in order to ensure equal opportunity and safeguard constitutional rights for all. The Division is particularly committed to serving vulnerable and historically underserved individuals through community-informed, culturally and linguistically appropriate, and data-driven legal advocacy and affirmative legal action. We strive for equity, underscoring the importance of intersectionality and racial justice. Embedded in the Division are units dedicated to protecting individuals and communities impacted by issues of children’s justice, disability rights, and police accountability.

    Primary Duties:The Intake Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties to assist the Division in investigating and resolving civil rights violations, including some paralegal duties. Primary responsibilities will include:

    • Maintaining and overseeing systems for the Division to receive and process constituent complaints, including extensive work with intake database and spreadsheets.
    • Screening and evaluating constituent complaints and following up with constituents as necessary.
    • Investigating and mediating complaints independently and with case teams.
    • Providing investigative and litigation support to attorneys on civil rights investigations and litigation.
    • Participating in outreach events, including trainings and public presentations.
    • Networking with community organizations and governmental agencies.
    • Creating and updating Division brochures and written materials.
    • Researching issues of interest to the Division.
    • Responding to public records requests and other informational inquiries; and
    • Performing other duties as needed.

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Division.
    • Demonstrated connection to the people and communities we serve.
    • Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple long- and short-term tasks and projects simultaneously and under deadlines.
    • Ability to interact and communicate with others effectively, including an ability to build rapport with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
    • Ability to convey information and communicate clearly and effectively in different settings, including on the phone, in person, in writing, and in public presentations.
    • Ability to gather and analyze information through conversations and research and to summarize such information and analysis verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; and
    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

    Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or other languages is strongly preferred.

    Position Type: Full-time/Non-Exempt

    Salary: $57,780.00
