    Development Specialist

    Bearings Bike Works is a faith-based organization that utilizes bikes to help youth develop the skills necessary to successfully transition into adulthood, namely the workforce. Our mission is to put the right tools in the hands of youth enabling them to advance their skills to build productive lives. Our vision is to see those that we serve take ownership of their lives with character and purpose and experience the freedom of economic mobility.

    The Development Specialist, working closely with the Development Manager and Director of Development, serves the organization by executing the day-to-day tasks related to fundraising and donor relations. This is a great entry-level role for someone wanting to learn the ins and outs of non-profit fundraising. We’re looking for a candidate that is highly-organized, detail-oriented, and loves the thrill of completing his or her daily to-do list. If you are passionate about and skilled in communications, event management, marketing, or customer service and looking to work for a mission-oriented organization, this role is for you!

    High Level Objectives:

    • Execute donor relations and development tasks with excellence and precision
    • Support all levels of fundraising with a great team-oriented attitude and willingness to serve and learn
    • Bring creativity and strong writing skills to Bearings’ digital and print communication pieces

    External Communications

    • Under the Development Manager’s leadership, assist with execution of digital and print marketing and communication efforts, including newsletters, targeted mailings and social media communication as needed
    • Serve as a point of contact for constituents contacting Bearings and ensure stakeholders receive
    • excellent customer service
    • Manage gift acknowledgment processes and ensure donors feel valued and appreciated quickly and thoughtfully after making a gift to Bearings.
    • Serve alongside the development team in the execution of fundraising events, ensuring event execution excellence and a high level of donor engagement

    Gift Tracking and Reporting

    • Oversee development-related data entry
    • Maintain donor records
    • Assist Development team with reporting and financial reconciliations as needed

    Volunteer Administration

    • Support community engagement with Bearings by addressing service inquiries and initial volunteer onboarding processes
    • Help maintain the Bearings volunteer community so that volunteers feel a connection to the mission, receive appreciation and remain engaged and committed to Bearings’ work in the community

    General Team Support

    • The needs of a non-profit development team are ever-changing! The ideal candidate for this position should be open to whatever comes his or her way… whether it’s picking up ice cream for an upcoming event, attending a community event to talk about Bearings or giving an impromptu tour. If these things sound up your alley, this role is for you!
