JOB DESCRIPTION
This role involves serving as a co-director alongside the current RRI Director to manage the New Harvest Netherlands entity and ensure the successful delivery of project outcomes. Beyond supporting our current EU-funded projects, such as FEASTS and EU Food Biofutures, the RRI Director will explore new opportunities for collaborative research and secure additional funding sources.
Operating within a multi-stakeholder environment, the RRI Director will work closely with the existing RRI Director and the international New Harvest team to establish a stewardship model for the cellular agriculture field. Key responsibilities include supporting pre-competitive research, developing standards, and contributing to policy recommendations.
This role demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, and proficiency in Dutch is highly preferred.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Development and Administration of New Harvest Europe’s Programs and Projects
- Develop projects and programs in support of New Harvest’s goals of making cell ag a technology for public good.
- Implement and manage program and project activities to ensure New Harvest’s impact and revenue goals are met
- Define and collect metrics in alignment with the organization’s goals
- Engage stakeholders focusing on scientific, technical, and industry collaborations
- Advise EU governments, European Commission, and relevant committees on issues related to cellular agriculture
- Analyze and synthesize data and other information to make recommendations that will inform New Harvest’s strategy and future policy and standards for the field of cellular agriculture
- Author scholarly papers, white papers, op-eds, press releases, and popular science articles that showcase the field’s need for open research and shared infrastructure.
Administer program and project budgets and secure ongoing funding.
- Outreach to government, universities, and industry leaders to help develop and apply to funding opportunities
- Write, submit, and manage program funding proposals to guarantee ongoing funding
- Collaborate with ED and Development Manager to send funders newsletters, and highlight infrastructure work in social media
- Maintain program budgets and forecast funds available for future grants
- Work with the Controller to develop program budgets and disburse and track funds
- Build a Generosity Network with technical experts in the field and other stakeholders in the agri-food system.
Operations and Compliance
- Assist the COO and Controller with the budget, finances, legal, compliance, and reporting requirements for the New Harvest Netherlands Foundation.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- A combination of educational and work experience equivalent to an MSc or PhD with relevance to cellular agriculture
- Experience working in a cell ag company (cultured meat or precision fermentation)
- Experience working in a non-profit or government organization related to cell ag
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts
- Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from various sources
- Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in preparing grant proposals and maintaining documentation
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
