Duties

Summary

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

Responsibilities

This position is located in theTraining Services Bureau, Assistant Chief of Police for Standards and TrainingOperations, United States Capitol Police.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Instructing training that comprisesa diverse range of basic, advanced, and specialized law enforcement courses.The training courses include continual recruit officer basic training,in-service (basic and advanced) training, simulator training, multiplespecialty units training, and future training as required. Instructing andensuring the training is delivered following the Department's regulations,directives, and policies.

Researching new and future trainingcourses related to future advancements in law enforcement technologies,equipment, or the implementation of new processes or procedures that impact thelaw enforcement community. Preparing course development that include scenariosthat challenge, enhance, and improve trainee skills and responses to real-lifesituations in order to teach critical concepts. Providing performanceassessments to aid officers in perfecting basic and advanced law enforcement techniques.
Advising and supporting managementstaff in planning, development, presentation, and evaluation of trainingcourses. Instructing on topics within the law enforcement field from approvedcourse materials and instructional plans for sworn and civilian employees.

Performing administrative support,which includes class scheduling and coordination, record keeping, propertymanagement, registration, and notification and eligibility determination.Utilizing an automated registration system to develop and administer trainingregistration activities and analyze the registration process.

You must be a U.S. Citizen.Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required.Must complete a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

For the CP-9 level you must have oneyear (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CP-8/GS-10level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to befilled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge,skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes: 1) Knowledge ofthe principles, concepts, and practices of law enforcement training methods andmaterials; 2) Knowledge of adult learning methodology to law enforcementtraining, development, and evaluation; 3) Skill in developing law enforcement trainingcurriculum and instruction, developing lesson plans, and course content; 4) Skillin operating computers and utilizing various software packages and the internetto instruct and demonstrate specific law enforcement training.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
Education may be substituted for experience. For CP-9: Candidate may possessa Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higherlevel graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

Issues of misconduct, such as illegal drug use, arrests, or convictions may not be automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements, omissions, or intentionally withholding required information at any phase of the hiring process will result in a candidate's disqualification regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatement or omission. The primary reason candidates fail a background investigation is due to deliberately withholding or omitting material facts. Providing false and/or misleading information may be grounds for removal from the application and selection process.
