Service Advisor - Full Time position
Tom Dwyer Automotive Services is a progressive, community-oriented, ecologically responsible, full-service, multi-carline automotive service facility that has represented integrity and quality for over 40 years. We certainly care about profit, but we aren’t a profit-driven shop. Tom believes top-quality service with our CLIENTS’ INTERESTS FIRST attracts and keeps the long term, happy clients we need to prosper. We demand excellence from everyone on our staff, but we return that commitment with the respect they’ve earned. This philosophy has made us the largest independent auto repair shop in Portland, and now we’re adding to our team.
We hire careful, conscientious employees who care for our clients like they’d care for their own friends and family. We believe Commission and Flat-rate pay blur the line of honesty so Advisors and Technicians are all paid hourly, and we try to build an environment where they can do their best work. You should be comfortable working on a team, but be able to think on your feet and be self-directing enough to require minimal supervision after training. We’re looking for people ready to commit to the auto industry and our company in particular for years to come.
As a Service Advisor-
We do not offer “menu service”. All our service recommendations are based on actual physical evaluation of the vehicles by an ASE-Certified or ASE-Master-Certified Technician who prepares a prioritized list of vehicle needs. The Service Advisor researches and estimates each item, prioritizes recommendations by safety, breakdown, and maintenance, then works with the client to decide exactly what steps to take. When the vehicle is complete, clients aren’t directed to “go see the person at the pay window.” The Service Advisor takes the time to explain what was done and why, explain any precautions or break-in procedures, and prepare the client for any expected future services.
Our Service Advisors are never paid commission. Their focus is delivering impeccable service and thorough, properly prioritized recommendations. Even when the news isn’t pretty our clients should be confident our Service Advisors are giving them the straight story with no hidden agenda.
A company with a 40-year track record means stability so we, and your job, will be here tomorrow. If you have particular schedule issues (like day care maybe?) let us know, and we can even try to be flexible. Experience with Mitchell point of sale, and 3 years experience as a Service advisor in a shop is preferred, but not required. Pay ranges from $30-$40 per hour depending on experience.
If you think you can contribute to the Tom Dwyer team, please DO NOT CALL OR COME BY THE SHOP. Send an email to the link above with a resume explaining your experience level and why you want to come work with us. If you don’t meet the exact job criteria then please still send a resume anyway! We have our preferences, but if you think you could make a contribution to the team then we’re interested in hearing from you.
