- Providing direct management and oversight of the Process Improvement Facilitator Team. This includes direct supervision of personnel as well as coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the Facilitators' activities;
- Identifying and implementing best practices and working with all levels of leadership to ensure the implementation and execution of LEAN processes throughout IEHP, leading to the development of a world-class, continuous improvement organization;
- Providing leadership, vision, coordination and functional direction to the leadership team for all elements of introduction, development and sustainability of LEAN operating principles;
- Coaching, mentoring and developing training curricula and materials for fostering and supporting the education and development of leaders, staff, and facilitators on LEAN topics and initiatives; and
- Identifying and solving complex change management and organizational problems using LEAN and other continuous improvement techniques and contribute enterprise-wide to the strategy and execution model

The director demonstrates strong leadership impact while collaborating with business and functional leaders to implement and develop improvement strategies.

Key Responsibilities- Provides leadership and oversight to Facilitators implementing improvement projects and events, including leading Value Streams and Rapid Improvement Events. Responsible for ensuring that Facilitators maintain quality standards and the production of all expected deliverables during all phases of the event and project life cycle.
- Coaches Facilitators in the development of their Lean leadership competencies and assists leadership in promoting and leading Lean across the organization; mentors Facilitators in establishing and maintaining action plans and measurement systems to execute their work.
- Prioritizes Process Improvement resources, and leads Facilitator efforts to ensure Lean best practices, standard work processes, methods, and tools, are being followed.
- Provides expert consultation to business partners, executives and leaders, and other deployment sponsors and stakeholders, LEAN team members at all levels of the organization on the use of Lean and continuous improvement techniques through the process of LEAN Transformation.
- Consults with business leaders to identify and prioritize organizational problems, assess to identify opportunities and gap areas and to integrate into overall LEAN plan. Helps to prioritize initiatives, escalate improvement opportunities, and remove barriers in order for teams to successfully meet and exceed strategic goals.
- Responsible for the overall planning and execution of Lean deployment for assigned business areas, including business case development, business partner resource strategy, objective setting, project plan, sustainability strategy, and day-to-day management of the deployment from Planning to Implementation.
- Facilitates coaching and development of leaders at all levels in each of the following:
- Identify and prioritize organizational problems within respective areas of responsibility
- Effective use of Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) and Gemba
- Managing via use of LEAN, rather than conventional techniques
- Defining and utilizing visual management
- Provide 'sensei-type' coaching to leadership to develop their Lean expertise over time
- Ensures education materials and presentations are properly developed to increase awareness and effectiveness of Lean and continuous improvement across the organization as well as provides just-in-time training to all groups, including leaders, facilitators, and project teams on topics such as Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA), team engagement and Process Improvement Tools.
- Contributes significantly to the ongoing development and refinement of the enterprise Lean and continuous improvement deployment and sustainability models. Designs and develops models, practices, and procedures to utilize across the enterprise. Responsible for consistency and continuity of LEAN and continuous improvement consulting work across the enterprise. Implements and executes a comprehensive strategy for value streams.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and highest-level contributor in analysis, problem-solving, and execution of complex organizational problems as prioritized by the Lean and continuous improvement deployment strategy and objectives and coaches/supports entity leaders regarding culture transformation needed to successfully improve performance and sustainable change.
- Facilitates the development, introduction and tracking of standard work for IEHP leaders.
- Creates and maintains data analysis used to measure effectiveness for process improvement program. Provides objective metrics and tracking systems for improvement strategies to demonstrate impact and return on investment of improvement activities to support the CQI principle that "decisions are based on facts".
- In collaboration with the Vice President of Operations, establishes a continuous improvement strategy that supports the Mission, Vision and overarching strategic plan of IEHP. Conduct ongoing evaluations of process improvement program offerings and take action to ensure necessary improvements to support the principle that "quality requires continuous improvement."
- Models the Lean leadership behaviors within the PI Team, as well as with others within the organization.
- Engages with external consultants (Simpler Consulting) to develop a strong partnership focused on common goals, best practice sharing, and the mentoring & coaching of the Facilitator Team.
- Documents the journey as well as the improvement approaches that define "The IEHP Way" from a LEAN perspective.
- Ensures the privacy and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) as outlined in IEHP's policies and procedures relating to HIPAA compliance.
- Performs any other duties as required to ensure Health Plan operations and department business needs are successful
QualificationsEducation & Requirements - Seven (7) years of LEAN Management experience required with mastery and application as a LEAN Practitioner, working knowledge and experience applying LEAN business principles with track record of successful implementation and sustainment of improvement
- Seven (7) years hands-on experience in successful, strategic policy deployment, value-stream mapping, Kaizen, daily accountability, 5S, visual manage, LEAN in the Office, LEAN sourcing, leader standard work, Gemba Walks, etc.
- Experience as LEAN Sensei for leadership, coaching alignment between strategic business plan and LEAN improvement plans (i.e., x-matrices, A3's)
- Experience coaching senior leaders with LEAN development, managing LEAN-leading training, and providing focused mentoring as well as developing LEAN curricula and associated training materials
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Operations or Business from an accredited institution required
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution preferred
Key Qualifications- LEAN healthcare experience preferred
- Experience in Toyota Production System (TPS) a plus
- Formal LEAN training
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality preferred
- Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt preferred or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills, facilitation, and engagement, problem-solving, influencing to encourage cross-functional working, challenge constructively, think both strategically and tactically, internal and external networking, system thinker, and removing obstacles
- Ability to build credibility and trusting interpersonal relationships that generate confidence and demonstrated influence as well as resilience to overcome temporary setbacks
- Word processing and data entry involving computer keyboard and screens, lifting up to 25 pounds and standing
