We’re looking for a driven, multi-talented storyteller to join SB Nation. You’ll lead SB Nation’s coverage of NCAA women's sports with engaging, impactful stories. You’ll help new fans understand the game and engage longtime fans on a deeper level with coverage in articles and on social.
The perfect candidate writes the definitive analysis of NCAA women's sports news of the day and is excited to talk about it on social video. They’re connected with players and personalities across the league.
We’re looking for an organized self-starter who can work quickly, manage their own time while traveling, juggle multiple priorities, and hit deadlines.
This is a one year temporary position that has the potential to go full-time.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Write in various styles and formats: features, profiles, quick-turn analyses and interviews.
- Generate endless story ideas and smart planning around the formats that work for them.
- Collaborate with SB Nation team members and other verticals to create companion stories for editorial tentpole packages.
- Study data insights (Chartbeat, Google Analytics, custom reports) to keep track of story performance and help identify the topics our audience cares about most.
SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE:
- This role requires masterful multi-tasking. You’ll be expected to work quickly and strategically to meet ambitious goals and keep projects on track.
- Stay on top of women’s basketball trends, consumer behavior, and current events to keep our content timely and relevant.
- Use data insights and analytics to better understand our audience and inform content strategy.
- Play a pivotal role in growing the SB Nation women’s sports coverage across all our platforms.
WHO YOU ARE
- 3+ years in digital journalism writing in NCAA women's sports space; editing experience and a bachelor’s degree preferred
- A long list of contacts in the basketball world that you can use to tap for expert perspectives
- Rigorous fact-checking and reporting skills, with a knack for finding expert sources and thinking outside the box
- Strong understanding of SEO best practices
- Adaptable can-do attitude, open to shifting direction and constructive feedback
- A genuine love for women’s basketball
NICE TO HAVES:
- Camera-facing experience on social media
- Experience with Audience Development tools (Google Analytics, Chartbeat)
