Position Summary:
In this role, the successful candidate we are looking for is a highly motivated and passionate HPC Systems Engineer who has expertise in building High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure and systems. The ideal candidate should have a background working with researchers in the life sciences and experience with HPC computation and parallel storage systems. The HPC Systems Engineer applies his/her technical expertise and skills to manage operation of the NYULH HPC Core computing platforms. This position assumes primary responsibility for building, deploying and maintaining the HPC infrastructure within NYULH HPCC among other systems administrative duties. He/she also shares the responsibility for user education and user support, including development of training catalog and delivery of training modules. The position reports and operates under the guidance of the Director, HPC at NYULH, working closely and collaboratively with NYULH faculty members and other Medical Center IT (MCIT) staff.
Responsibilities:
- ·Implementation of large-scale high performance storage systems including networking and client integration
- ·Execution and testing of maintenance and upgrade activities
- ·Capacity management, trending, and planning
- ·System monitoring, troubleshooting and debugging
- ·Develop in-house software for system usage monitoring, statistics gathering, and various accounting activities
- ·Manage high performance storage systems within the HPC environments, research
areas, and core facilities - ·Work with vendors to support and maintain the HPC and laboratory equipment
- ·Actively participate in various forms of customer support including ticket based
troubleshooting and working with individual users on runtime and code debugging/profiling/optimization tasks - ·Work with collaborating IT departments to complete projects and diagnose issues within the infrastructure
- ·Data transfer optimization and application support
- ·Provide user training and develop reference materials for using applications
- ·Provide hands-on systems integration support
- ·Operating system support
- ·Perform HPC systems administration tasks
- ·Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director, NYU Langone Health HPC
- ·On-call support as required
Minimum Qualifications
- ·5 years’ experience
- ·Demonstrated understanding of parallel storage engineering and systems administration
- ·Advanced skills with large-scale parallel file systems and storage tiering
- ·Experience with SMB and NFS network storage protocols
- ·Experience with Linux/UNIX operating systems and bash scripting
- ·Extensive knowledge of ethernet, InfiniBand, and fiber channel networking
- ·Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Lua.
Preferred Qualifications
- ·Demonstrated expertise in integrating complex hardware and software solutions in HPC environment
- ·Knowledge of HPC resource managers and schedulers
- ·Knowledge of virtualization; familiarity with OpenStack or other private/public cloud
technologies

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.96 - $162,649.75 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
