Mark Thomas is hiring a Commuter Rail/Heavy Rail Project Manager to join the Transportation group! As a Commuter Rail/Heavy Rail Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of supporting our entire team from the initial pursuit of new rail work with our key clients through the development of project budgets and work plans, managing all aspects of project design, and engaging in and supervising the technical quality of our deliverables! This is a "seller-doer" role, and individual production and coordination efforts are reduced with the balance of the role being the actual management of the projects. The supervisory responsibilities include training and the development of direct reports and assigned staff to responsible projects. The Commuter Rail/Heavy Rail PM develops their own client base through business development activities and a higher level of client care, developing long-standing, positive client relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Leads project teams to successful completion of quality deliverables
- Manages quality, budget, and schedule of responsible projects
- Engages with all aspects of project proposals & participates in client interviews
- Effectively communicates successful strategies and technical solutions to staff, clients, and sub-consultants
- Achieves financial success & utilization targets
- Performs the necessary functions and tasks to manage and develop direct reports effectively
- Performs quality control measures and audits quality control measures for project work
QUALIFICATIONS - 8 - 10 + years progressive experience & responsibilities in design, delivery, and coordination of transportation design to include a focus in transit and rail projects for light rail, commuter rail, and/or Class I freight rail clients
- Demonstrated success in leading rail improvement projects with transit, commuter rail and/or rail agencies and delivering quality projects in California
- BS/ MS in civil engineering and California PE license
- Specific project experience working with major Rail Agencies in California
- Knowledge of AREMA and other rail regulatory standards and procedures
- Knowledge of standards and specifications for public works projects
- Proficient in MS Project and/or Primavera P6 scheduling software
- Knowledge of overall project deliverable processes including conceptual, preliminary engineering, and final design phases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of project financials and metrics
- Design software user (AutoCAD with Civil 3d, MicroStation with OpenRoads/Rail)
- Ability to travel statewide as client and project business dictates

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The annual base compensation range for this position is $146,000 - $185,000.00.
