ABOUT THE JOB!The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for supporting both legacy product and new product development; planning and coordinating current and proposed manufacturing processes within the site and with suppliers for the Defense Respiratory Value Stream (DRVS).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Initiates and leads Manufacturing Process Engineering work related to researching, designing and developing capable machines, production fixtures, tools, mechanical production equipment, and the management of such tools and equipment in production.
- Oversees sustaining and improving manufacturing capabilities and readiness.
- Management of new and existing manufacturing standard procedures.
- Initiates and leads Manufacturing Process Engineering work related to initial process and planning development and qualification for new engineering designs.
- Evaluates producibility of new designs against capabilities and can work closely with the Engineering Department to provide recommendations to support manufacturability and profitability.
- Provides recommendations regarding manufacturing personnel training and equipment requirements.
- Develops narratives for administrative and technical proposals.
- Provides leadership during Production Readiness Reviews (PRR) to ensure manufacturing readiness.
- Trains and mentors junior Manufacturing Process Engineers.
- Leads continuous improvement implementation and productivity improvement efforts.
- Communicates well to create a culture of performance, ownership, and trust.
- Communicates with outside suppliers, contractors in regard to manufacturing and process engineering
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Internal : Daily contact with manufacturing, engineering, QA, and materials, as well as department managers and employees.
External : Contact with individuals outside the facilities such as individuals at other Gentex facilities, equipment manufacturers and material suppliers.

Requirements
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering. A degree in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing or Industrial Technology may also be sufficient.
- Six Sigma Green Belt, or higher, from a recognized certification body or a demonstrated excellent understanding/application of Six Sigma Body-of-Knowledge
EXPERIENCE: - 3+ years of hands-on experience in Manufacturing Process Engineering in plastics/rubber molding and machining required; electromechanical assembly, and/or composites preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in new product development (NPD) and introduction.
- ISO9001 experience in a regulated industry required; AS9100 strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- Hands-on and leadership skills in applying lean manufacturing and methodical continuous improvement principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Developing new tooling/fixtures and processes in plastics/rubber molding (i.e. compression, transfer, injection) and machining, electromechanical assembly, and/or composites.
- Knowledge of Lean tools to drive increased manufacturing productivity and capabilities (i.e. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Design of Experiments (DOE) and optimization, Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, Measurement System Analysis (MSA)).
- Ability to interpret engineering design and superior understanding of GD&T in practice and during design.
- Capability analysis and knowledge of PFMEA methodology applied during new product development and introduction.
- Ability to lead process / equipment validation (i.e. IQOQPQ, PPAP).
- Understanding Bill of Material (BOM) structures and ERP systems.
- Ability to recognize the need for capital investment and in writing financial justification (ROI).
- Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access and Visio, and Minitab.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of performing work in the manufacturing facility which is subject to moderate changes in temperature.
