Mark Thomas is hiring a Railroad Bridge Engineer to join the team! The role of the Railroad Bridge Engineer is to take the lead in technical designs and to coordinate the necessary tasks required to complete small to medium size projects in conformity to the defined scope of work. This may include the coordination of project phases, time, and budgets. The supervisory responsibilities include a role in training and guiding the development of more junior structures engineering staff and technicians. This position requires maintaining excellent communications and partnerships with professionals at every level of the organization. Qualified candidates residing outside of California are welcome to apply, but must obtain registration in California within one year.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Independently prepares project plans, specifications, estimates, calculates quantities, performs structural calculations, and prepare reports, and exhibits
- Works closely with CAD drafters on the preparation of detailed plans
- Mentors and manages internal design team efforts
- Provides QC support by following the appropriate procedures as outlined
- Provides support during construction phase, exhibiting an understanding of construction methodologies, techniques and associated working space
- Reviews and uses design manuals, agency standards, and procedures
- Assists in preparing plans using current engineering drafting software (AutoCAD or MicroStation)
- Prepares calculations using current engineering design software (SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract, etc.)
- Conducts internal technical training of junior staff; provides coaching as needed
- Develops working relationships with outside contacts such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants
- Gains knowledge of scope, budgets, agreements, and financial reporting systems
QUALIFICATIONS- BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, concentration in structures strongly preferred, but not required, MS in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred
- 4-6+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience to include specific experience in railroad bridge design
- California Professional Engineer license required, or registered as a Professional Engineer in state of residence with the ability to obtain a CA license within 12 months
- Working knowledge of AREMA and bridge design
- Demonstrated ability to delegate and lead design groups
- Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel
- Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of Auto CAD or MicroStation
- Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, XTRACT or similar design programs
- Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of structural design for reinforced concentrate
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Must be able to design a bridge independently

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The base compensation range for this position is $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually.
