The RoleYou will play a critical role in establishing and optimizing our in-house machining capabilities in support of the Mega Class satellite development. You will develop and execute CNC programs, post G-code, and machine high-precision parts, including complex geometries. You will have a high degree of autonomy and ownership of first article programs, optimize them for production, and write comprehensive manufacturing plans. This role requires you to design and implement tooling and fixtures, collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams, and develop machining processes to meet aggressive production timelines.
Responsibilities - Support the expansion of our in-house machine shop, including the selection and initial set up of CNC machines and other necessary equipment
- Create, optimize, and verify CNC programs using CAD/CAM/CAE software such as NX or MasterCam
- Program and operate CNC milling machines and lathes to machine high-precision parts
- Create a manufacturing plan, develop your own tooling and work holding fixtures, and collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop new machining processes
- Establish and maintain machining process documentation, including tool selection, feeds and speeds, and inspection plans
- Communicate with the wider engineering teams and leadership for general alignment, capability, and support prioritization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in compliance with EH&S standards
- Consistently provide process improvement ideas and design feedback to improve manufacturability
Qualifications - 8+ years of CNC machining experience (using NX/TeamsCenter or MasterCam)
- 5+ years programming experience including rapid iteration
- Strong proficiency in GD&T tolerances and technical drawing interpretation
- Expert level knowledge of machining processes, including 5-axis machining, multi-axis turning, and mill-turn operations.
- Experience with CMM and other inspection equipment
- Ability to manually edit G-code paths and settings to optimize programs
Nice to Have - Experience working in a space hardware development program
- Strong familiarity with post processing methods
- Experience working in a high-pace development environment with ability to adapt to short production schedules
- Operate with a high sense of urgency, with strong attention to detail and strong communication skills
Additional Requirements - Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as bending or twisting, grasping, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, carrying, and use hands to operate tools or machine controls
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
Compensation and Benefits: - Hourly pay range for this non-exempt role is $35-48 + equity in the company
