Mainframe Software Engineer

The Team:
We use knowledge of Financial Domain, Feed processing of Demographic and Financial feeds, Recordkeeping and Transaction processing to translate the business requirement to Software solutions developing Simple/Sophisticated Services to Onboard a New Client as well as Improvement to the process of an existing Client on a mainframe platform running under a Z/OS environment! We develop applications and provide support in a mainframe environment, using COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, and VSAM files. We analyze and recommend changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development subject specialists and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Performs as a full stack engineer, including requirements gathering, development, and testing.
- Participates in architecture design teams and help define and implement application level architecture.
- Develops applications on sophisticated projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
- Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
- Responsible for QA readiness.
- Plans and conducts system testing.
- Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
- Establishes project plans for complex projects across multiple platforms
- Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments.
- Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
- Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
- Advises senior management on technical strategy and mentors junior team members.
- Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
- Figure out opportunities to innovate and provide solutions to the existing Process by Automation
Education and Experience:
We are looking for a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of experience performing mainframe brokerage and stock plan services systems application development.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
- Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) performing mainframe application development, test automation, and support, using COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ-Series, Java, Web Services, and SQL.
- Experience in the development and deployment of Batch and CICS applications
- DE performing mainframe application development — file format and comparison — using File-aid; performing version management using Endeavor; debugging and unit testing, using Intertest and Abend-Aid; and scheduling jobs using Control-M.
- DE analyzing and crafting data flows for mainframe application development.
- DE performing mainframe application development and performance tuning within TSO and MVS operating system environments; developing applications, using Endevor, Git, ClearCase (for version control), Control-M (for scheduling), Abend-AID and Intertest (for debugging), File-Aid (for browsing), and Easytrieve (for report generation); and conducting performance tuning and capacity planning — reducing I/Os, CPU Time, MSUs, and MIPs — using Strobe, iStrobe, Platinum Detector, and TMON.
- Basic to Decent understanding on open source technologies like (Core Java, Python, XML, JSON)
