A Brief Overview:The Manager, Professional Coding, oversees the medical coding operations for Physician Billing (PB) for assigned specialties. This includes ensuring that the charge entry staff and coders for the assigned specialties perform their duties accurately, efficiently, completely, according to health privacy regulations, and in a timely manner.
What you will do:- Provides oversite of the coding and charge entry team for assigned specialties, including interviewing, hiring, reviews, and disciplinary actions; ensures high level employee engagement and leads regular team meetings and check-ins; maintains high level of communication and interaction with team members, providing work related feedback and ensuring positive productivity. Provide specialty specific coding education to coding team, providers, and operations.
- Works collaboratively with the other PB and HB coding managers. Works collaboratively with assigned practices, compliance, the charge master team, IT, customer service, the professional staff office, other areas of revenue cycle, and all other areas within the organization, as needed
- Responsible for ensuring the assigned coding team members are compliant with current guidelines and adjusting workflows to accommodate these. Enhances or changes workflows to promote efficiencies, ensure correct coding, and to attain goals
- Sets ongoing area key performance indicators (KPIs) for coding team and drives the team's performance results, outcomes, and efficiencies. Ensures coding of all assigned professional (PB) services are posted in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures denials are worked in a timely manner.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of coding guidelines, the Joint Commission, Medicare and Medicaid, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Stata of Illinois Regulations, CPT and ICD (current version), and the ability to interpret these for developing coding policies and procedures. Collaborates with compliance department.
What you will need:- Education: Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related field or equivalent relevant experience required
- Experience: 5 years Professional or Hospital Coding Experience and 2 years of leadership experience required
- Certifications: CCS-P or CPC required
