The Sr Hard Parts Developer has a key role in the creation and dissemination of technical information and documentation necessary for the timely and quality manufacture of KLIM products. This position is responsible for the development of product, through design to final prototype, which translates the consumers need into a brand aligned product brief that can be commercialized with profit margins which drive P&L goals. Drive functional products to achieve KLIM's quality standards.
Duties and responsibilities- Produce, manipulate, and modify technical sketches of accessory products using Adobe Illustrator based on input from Sales, Branding and Design/Creative;
- Using input from Sales, PLM and Design/Creative, account requirements, and institutional knowledge create technical packages containing accurate technical sketches, bills of materials, construction, packaging and other technical information to be used by factories in calculating costs for and producing products;
- Together with the Research and Development group review prototype, pre-production, and production samples against technical packages and formulate feedback and constructive criticism together with clear direction that brings about successful completion of projects within given time constraints;
- Collaborate with others in the department to manage workloads to meet deadlines while achieving the highest level of quality and accuracy;
- Support & assist Design in establishing all product specifications required in the Tech Pack;
- Prepares and maintain an accurately updated Specification Info for every product;
- Serves as a proactive conduit between the designer and the factory to ensure prototypes are developed towards the design intent meeting all Klim quality standards.
- Accountable for the staying on calendar, implementing process, proto critiques, accuracy of the specification pack and eventually the accuracy of the sales sample and production tech packs;
- Creates documented critiques of each prototype against its agreed product specification, tracking all comments, changes and specifications during the stages of critique;
- Constructs and follows-up product briefs and delivers a product that adheres to a specific target FOB;
- Proactively communicates with internal team, contractors, Sourcing team, and material suppliers during the entire development process;
- Responsible for managing material usage and specifications to achieve production efficiencies.
- Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
- Travel to factories and work with them on developing the product ensuring all specs from the tech pack are met. Also, checking for accuracy and quality from 1st sample to final production.
- Travel to factory for inline inspection and production inspection as necessary. Ensuring quality requirements are both met and understood by the factory through the product development of new styles.
- Review and analyze CAD files. When necessary make revision comments and revisions to CAD file itself.
- Negotiate FOB pricing with factories and other partners
- Train QC team on what is required and specific to each specific product. Reviewing know issues seen through development making sure they have a full knowledge of what to look for during QC inspection.
- Research new products and innovations in the market and see if they would make a good fit for Klim and if it will enhance the product.
- Support in creating, sourcing, and maintain relationships with key innovation partners that will enhance the product.
- Responsible for supporting in product presentation at sales meeting and product trainings to other departments.
- Be able to work with dealers and customer to help them resolve issues they may have. Also, be able to take customer and dealer feedback and apply it to the product to make it better
- Perform testing on innovation ideas, prototypes and samples. Should be good with your hands and be able to construct prototype parts and functioning product mockups in order to test and prove your concepts. Create tests that will accurately represent and get you the data you need to know if the part/product is viable or not. Also, create testing vs. competitors/benchmarks to validate which is better
Qualifications- Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology, products and concepts.
- Provide advice and recommend actions involving complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.
- Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.
Education/Experience.
- Bachelors Degree in Design, Industrial Design, Engineering or equivalent experience in related area. Strong computer skills. Adobe Illustrator, Excel, Word and Photoshop. Strong ability to adhere to deadlines. Delivers accurate data on-time and in-full. Advanced knowledge of fit/construction and costing. Excellent written and oral communication. Solidworks and CAD knowledge is a plus.
- Solid computer skills including MS Office Suite. Advanced product knowledge and knowledge of global markets and competitors.
- Proven experience in taking designs and developing them to a finished product with the factories.
- 7+ years previous experience in product development, preferably in hard goods.
- Motorsports enthusiast or experience preferred.
- Must be able to use product competently. Extensive knowledge of power sports and/or automotive like products a plus.
- Must be able to negotiate with factories on FOB prices.
- The ability to speak to small and big groups to convey your intended message is a plus
- Good interpersonal skills and working in a team is a must.
Working conditions- Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
- Must be able to travel overseas on projects numerous times over the course of a development project.
