Job Summary: The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will lead a project team in the execution of Utility Capital Projects from Initiation of the Project through Closeout. The SPM is responsible for managing project budgets, interfacing with other Client departments to address project needs, communicating and interfacing with jurisdictional management, using Client systems for reporting, interfacing with all local, state, and regional regulatory agencies, negotiating and managing contracts and contractors. The SPM shall have superior interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills. The SPM assists with the training and mentorship of all company PMs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Strictly adhere to Client's procedures (note that practically all work is covered by some type of procedure, either written or implied).
• Lead the efforts of Client and Contractor personnel towards the safe and successful completion of capital projects through distinct stages: Initiation, Definition, Execution (Design and Construction) and Closeout.
• Keep Client Senior Manager of Project Management apprised of project status and issues.
• Maintain quality documentation.
• Obtain regular progress updates of key activities.
• Gather scoping information and prepare execution plans, schedules, and estimates.
• Submit funding requests for approval.
• Request and track work orders creation.
• Provide reoccurring web based status reports.
• Provide standalone status reports as required.
• Perform project document control.
• Participate in constructability reviews and bid evaluations.
• Facilitate interactions with external Customers.
• Update monthly Project Cost Sheets.
• With assistance from Scheduler, perform regular schedule maintenance.
• Lead team meetings, document minutes, and track actions.
• Conduct and document Lessons Learned at the completion of each project.
• Participate in monthly budget reviews with Client Management.
• Lead the project through Gate reviews at the completion of each applicable project stage.
• Track and document project gate and funding approvals.
• Assist with training and mentorship of all company PMs.
• Assist the Department Supervisor with proposals and other client responsibilities
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Basic or Minimum Qualifications • Requires Fifteen (15) or more years' of Project Management experience;
• Requires Electric Utility Transmission and/or Distribution experience;
• Four (4) Year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Project Management or Relevant Bachelor of Science degree required;
• Requires a working knowledge of PMBOK;
• Requires familiarity with Primavera software (v6.0 or newer) and/or Microsoft Project;
• Must have a proven ability to lead many diverse teams through successful completion of
• projects from initiation to closeout;
• Must have superior interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and
• presentation skills;
• Must have a proven ability to train and mentor within a functional department;
• Requires a proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written;
• Must possess advanced knowledge of MS Office suite of products (especially MS Word and MS Excel) and web based platforms (cost management, forecasting, reporting, etc.
Preferred Qualifications • Electric utility Transmission and/or Distribution experience preferred;
• Experience with managing $30M+ project budgets preferred;
• PMP preferred;
• P.E. preferred;
• P6 experience preferred.
*Sr. Project Manager is an EDG corporate designation. The Hiring Manager will assess the applicable client designation as a PMII or Sr. PM. Working Conditions: • Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations.
• Field duties require trips to transmission line ROW and substations.
• Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
• May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
• May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
