We're Hiring: SAT/ACT Tutors (In-Person + Online)
Location: Sorrento Valley, San Diego, CA
Compensation: $30–$40/hr to start + performance bonuses | Benefits for full-time tutors
Hammer Prep is hiring SAT and ACT tutors who are passionate about helping students succeed—not just in testing, but in confidence, mindset, and academic growth. This is a part-time role with the potential to grow into a full-time career for the right candidate.
What We’re Looking For
- You’re a strong communicator who enjoys explaining complex ideas simply.
- You love teaching or coaching and naturally support others as they learn.
- You’re organized, professional, and able to build trust with families.
- You want to work somewhere that takes tutoring seriously—but still knows how to laugh.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (completed)
- Available 5 days each week, including one weekend day
- Willing to tutor 20–40 hours/week, mostly afternoons, evenings, and weekends
- Strong personal academic background
- Willingness to complete training and score highly on our internal SAT/ACT diagnostic
- Comfortable managing communication with parents and students
No tutoring experience required, but you do have to be able to score high on an SAT and ACT. Some of our best tutors came from fields like coaching, psychology, research, and even improv.
What You’ll Do
- Provide 1-on-1 test prep to middle and high school students
- Use Hammer Prep’s curriculum and strategies to help students reach their goals
- Build positive relationships with students and families
- Collaborate with other tutors to share insights and improve outcomes
Training & Support
- Paid onboarding and weekly training sessions
- Access to our extensive resources, mentorship from senior tutors, and ongoing feedback
- Opportunities to cross-train in AP subjects, high school support, and college essay coaching
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay: $30–$40/hr
- Raises tied to tutoring hours, student outcomes, and referrals
- Full-time (30+ hrs/week) tutors receive:

Remote Option?
First-year tutors are expected to train and work primarily in person. If you can only work remotely, we require at least 2 years of full-time tutoring experience.
