Role description
The Web Designer Volunteer works on the creative side of producing a website. They are responsible for designing visual elements for use online, reflecting the company’s branding and design aesthetic. They create layouts for landing pages, product pages and other areas of the website and test different designs to see which are most effective.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Taking a key role in the design and layout of a website using WordPress.
- Creating Photoshop Design Files (PSDs) for the visual layout of web pages and converting designs into HTML and CSS
- Working with other teams to meet company-wide targets
- Using web content management systems
- Implementing and maintaining high-quality SEO policies and incorporating them with web content
- Reporting to senior management
- Collecting and analysing data on website usage to improve performance
- Responding to reports of technical problems and working with the team to fix them quickly
- Liaising with Copywriters, Graphic Designers and Developers to ensure that tasks are completed on time
Qualifications and skills
- WordPress
- At least 5 years of experience developing and designing websites using WordPress
- Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
- Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
- Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
- Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome Inspector, etc.
- Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
- Ability to convert comprehensive layouts and wireframes into working HTML pages
- Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools {{such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial}}
- Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
- SEO best practice coding.
