Job Description
Job Summary: The Registered Nurse-Infection Control serves as a liaison for infection control for assigned departments and nursing divisions. Performs surveillance for healthcare-associated infections. Facilitates implementation and compliance with infection control policies. Serves as a resource for medical staff, hospital staff, and community. Performs special projects. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Associate's Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum three years of clinical experience in acute care nursing required. Minimum one year management experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledgeable of Infection Control practices, surveillance methodology and healthcare associated infection data. Ability to develop policies and procedures. Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance. Ability to access and use national data base for Infection Control, National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Data Entry. Analyze and interpret data. Presentation of Data. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate and troubleshoot basic office and patient care equipment required for the position; perform required patient care activities related to the position. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Certification in Infection Control preferred.
