About The Role:
The Manager of Compliance is responsible for ensuring continuity in the daily operations of the organization's risk mitigation and compliance programs in alignment with legal standards, industry regulations, and internal policies. This person will need an advanced skillset reviewing contracts, identifying compliance requirements, and developing responsive compliance systems. They will support regular audit processes, provide support for the compliance/risk management “help desk,” and help foster a culture of privacy awareness, risk mitigation, and compliance throughout the organization. Additionally, they will collaborate with internal functions on Information Technology Operations, Finance & Administration, and other VentureWell business units, and liaise with external regulators in a manner that meets VentureWell's requirements. This position will report directly to the Director of Contracts & Compliance and will be a member of the Contracts & Compliance team. This position will work across a broad range of business lines, regions, and stakeholders to support and assess practices that meet VentureWell's defined policies and standards.
Responsibilities:
Compliance Management Lead (70% of time)
- Partner with the Director of Contracts & Compliance to ensure effectiveness of the organization's programs for ensuring risk mitigation and compliance— adherence to contractual obligations, legal standards, industry regulations, and internal policies
- Advise internal stakeholders during contract negotiations on risk posed by contract terms and the effect of contract terms on company’s ability to comply with ongoing contracts, internal policies and external regulations
- Support development of internal and external conflict of interest (COI) policies and procedures, including managing risk mitigation plans with consultants and subcontractors
- Maintain running list of compliance/risk mitigation priorities
- Manage compliance project intake, appropriately prioritizing projects
- Manage VentureWell continuous audit function, ensuring appropriate parties are being reviewed at regular intervals to ensure compliance with funding instruments
- Manage day-to-day tasks necessary for timely completion of these priorities and projects
- Manage communication with internal and external stakeholders necessary for completion of these priorities and projects, providing timely updates as well as data and document requests
Compliance and Contracts Team Engagement (20% of time)
- Liaise with other Contracts & Compliance team members to ensure consistency in policy, procedures, and messaging to other VentureWell teams and external partners and vendors
- Support other Contracts & Compliance team members in reviewing contracts, redlines, and similar policy and procedure documents to ensure best practice compliance and risk mitigation policies are followed
Research (10% of time)
- Remain current on specific VentureWell risk mitigation and compliance needs by conducting research or liaising with VentureWell vendors who can provide this information
- Serve as key VentureWell contact whenever compliance questions arise by researching issue and developing mitigation plans
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree is preferred. A master's degree in law or related field or a JD would be a plus.
- Minimum of five years experience in a compliance role, ensuring organizational contract compliance and providing guidance to stakeholders
- Demonstrated expertise assessing contracts for contractual obligations and risk
- Strong ability to project manage ongoing compliance priorities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex compliance issues in a clear and concise manner
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, staying abreast of the latest advancements and trends in regulations that affect compliance
- Experience in the non-profit sector, particularly with federal grants and contracts, is a strong advantage including knowledge of 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). Experience with Other Transaction Authority (OTA) a plus.
