Cooley Dickinson Hospital, a member of Massachusetts General Brigham, is currently seeking a Board-Certified Infectious Disease Specialist to join our employed multispecialty group.
The focus will be on serving as Site Medical Director for Infection Control for approximately 20 hours per week as well as providing both inpatient and outpatient Infectious Disease consultation services. Our Infection Control Department has been a strong, vital, and successful department, using data and innovation to continually improve the quality of patient care. It enjoys support and respect from the administration and has a positive working relationship and easy communication with all other hospital departments.
The Site Medical Director for Infection Control is a key part of the Infection Control team at Mass General Brigham. This role will report directly to the MGB Chief of Infection Control. The physician in this role will provide clinical support in the day-to-day operations of site(s) infection control teams, supporting the execution of system infection prevention and control strategies and processes. Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.
This role will maintain sound organizational relationships, work well within a matrixed and integrated health care system, and will be facile in performing bi-directional communication with MGB leadership and the site.
The department consists of a part-time Medical Director, one full-time IP Nurse Manager, one part-time nurse who reviews cases, and part-time support from a data analyst. Cooley Dickinson Hospital utilizes EPIC as our EMR and its infection control module, Bugsy, to monitor for infections. The incumbent would serve as the Co-chair of the Infection Prevention Committee. They would also create and implement, with the IP Nurse Manager, an annual Infection Control Plan and provide IP leadership for the Medical Staff.
Our current team of infectious disease (ID) physicians sees both inpatients and outpatients with a variety of medical conditions including HIV, tick-borne diseases, cancer-related complications, and occasional tropical and travel-related diseases. While the practice is based out of a community hospital, we offer modern therapies such as fecal microbial transplantation. HIV care supported by a local HIV support organization with Ryan White funding. We are also proud that we were one of the first hospitals in the country to use UV light to try to combat hospital-associated infections. Our ICU is staffed by intensivists, with a significantly lower mortality than the national average. One provider on our ID team also chairs the well-regarded multi-departmental Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and the candidate would be expected to participate in those activities.
Our team currently consists of two physicians and a nurse practitioner who treat patients in a judgment-free environment that respects all cultures, races, religions, sexual orientations, and lifestyle choices. The ideal candidate will be patient-focused and have a demonstrated track record of providing compassionate and expert health care. This role would be expected to participate in on-call coverage with the ID team, to provide 24/7, 365 days/year coverage for both office and inpatient services. The current schedule includes one on-call weekend per month.
