Summary
The Tax Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of Simplot’s tax compliance and reporting processes. This position oversees the federal, state, and local income tax processes, including the preparation of tax returns and supporting the domestic tax provision. The Tax Manager leads a team of tax professionals and collaborates with cross-functional teams to determine appropriate tax implications of financial transactions. Additionally, this role will drive strategic tax initiatives, monitor legislative changes, and provide insights to optimize the company’s tax position.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns.
- Prepare and review detailed workpapers to support federal and state income tax compliance, including book to tax adjustments, state apportionment, and quarterly estimates.
- Assist with and provide key inputs for the domestic income tax provision process.
- Research and prepare responses to tax notices.
- Develop and implement process improvements, automations, and operational efficiencies while providing analytical and data support for tax planning.
- Conduct tax research to analyze and interpret tax regulations and law changes, ensuring compliance and quantifying the impact on Simplot’s operations and cash flow.
- Act as key tax user for implementation of SAP Central Finance (“CFIN”) by testing system functionality, providing feedback to the project management team, and redesigning existing processes to align with new reporting.
- Assist with special tax projects, including mergers and acquisitions.
Typical Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting to Tax from 4 year college or university
- Master's Degree is a plus
Relevant Experience
- 5-10 Years of public accounting or large corporate tax experience (CPA preferred).
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations (specific industry knowledge, a plus).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and tax software applications; experience with SAP/CFIN is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with OneSource Income Tax is preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, with ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in problem resolution.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across various functional areas.
