Hiring Range: $28.03 - $29.74 per hour (Engineering Pay Plan, ENG24 Step 1-4 DOQ)

There is one Engineering Technician II opening with the Yakima County Roads Department, Construction/Survey Division. This position performs advanced technical and physical field survey tasks as directed by the Survey Crew Party Chief.

Note: This is an AFSCME 2264 Bargaining Unit Position.
Essential Duties:
Applies technical surveying knowledge and techniques in collection of field survey and topographic data, operating survey instruments such as theodolites, levels, electronic distance measuring devices, level rods, back sights, survey chains and GPS receivers.
Operates survey instruments for construction staking on various road, bridge and other construction projects.
Verifies that the appropriate instruments, tools, and supplies are available and in sufficient quantities for the task involved.
Performs field calculations of vertical and horizontal data. Records data into field books and staking sheets. Downloads data collectors into office computer and process line work to check data collected.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field AND two (2) years related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
-valid Washington State Drivers’ License at time of appointment; and,
-successful completion of a general employment verification.
Preferred:
-Associates degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
Equipment Used: computer, calculator, theodolite, level, level rod, survey chain, GPS receiver, electronic data collector, sledge hammer to drive hubs and stakes, cell phone, copier, vehicle.
Working Conditions: This position is rated as Heavy Work: Exerting up to or in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is performed out in the field.
Environment: excessive noise, exposure to weather, extreme temperatures, moving/mechanical parts, vibration, field work.
