Job Summary: Miller & Hopp is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Personal Injury Paralegal to join our dedicated legal team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting plaintiffs in personal injury cases and a strong ability to manage case files, prepare legal documents, and assist attorneys in litigation tasks. This role requires excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Assist attorneys in managing personal injury cases from initial intake through trial and settlement.
Maintain case files, including organizing and updating pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and court documents.
Coordinate with medical providers to gather necessary medical records, bills, and other evidence.
Draft legal documents such as demand letters, discovery requests, pleadings, and motions for attorney review.
Talk to adjusters and help posture cases for settlement.
Ensure deadlines are met for filings, discovery, and other litigation tasks.
Client Interaction:
Communicate with clients to provide updates, gather information, and answer non-legal questions.
Maintain strong relationships with clients through clear, empathetic, and professional communication.
Schedule appointments, depositions, mediations, and other case-related events with clients, experts, and opposing counsel.
Litigation Support
Assist in preparing cases for depositions, hearings, and trial, including organizing exhibits and preparing trial binders.
Conduct factual research and prepare case summaries to assist attorneys in case strategy.
Coordinate with expert witnesses and ensure all necessary documentation is provided for their review.
Administrative Support:
o File court documents electronically, ensuring compliance with local and federal filing procedures.
o Track case-related expenses, manage case calendars, and monitor important deadlines.
o Assist with settlement paperwork and closing files once cases are resolved.
Track and Resolve client medical liens
Collaboration:
Work closely with attorneys and other paralegals to ensure cases are progressing efficiently.
Participate in case reviews, strategy meetings, and team discussions regarding case status.
Professional Development:
Stay current with developments in personal injury law and participate in continuing legal education (CLE) opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Associate degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution or significant on the Job Experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal, with at least 2 years focused on personal injury litigation.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with Clio
Strong knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Client Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
Research and Writing Skills:
Excellent legal research and writing skills with the ability to draft accurate legal documents and demands under attorney supervision.
