Ancestry is looking for a passionate, highly motivated, and exceptional Senior Software Engineer to join our Fold3 Engineering team, in the role of lead frontend developer. The Fold3 team is a small engineering team that is responsible for all development aspects of Ancestry's Fold3.com and forceswarrecords.com websites.
Reporting to our Digitization & Indexing Architect, you will work as a Lead Front-end engineer. This role will have a significant impact on the design and architecture of the front-end systems that power these websites. Your opinions will also be considered heavily in UX design.
What you will do...
- Serve as lead on a project of significant scope
- Work closely with cross-functional teams and other developers
- Optimize our cloud infrastructure to be cost-effective and efficient
- Write clean, modular, and accessible code in React
- Develop robust test cases using Cypress.io
- Participate actively in design and architecture discussions
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to an inclusive team environment
Who You Are...
- 5+ years of professional experience in JavaScript and/or TypeScript development, with a focus on frontend technologies
- Proficiency in React and TypeScript; familiarity with cypress.io for testing;
- Experience with REST API development in Node.js and Express.js;
- Knowledge of maintaining build pipelines (Webpack preferred)
- Cloud & Automation Knowledge: Experience with AWS and Jenkins
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices, localization techniques, agile methodologies, and SEO optimization experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $126,000 - $144,000 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision.
