The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) invites applications for the position of College Shuttle and Safety Services Assistant. A College Shuttle and Safety Services Assistant operates a light shuttle vehicle to pick up and transport students, faculty, and/or staff with disabilities and performs routine patrols to observe and report safety and security concerns at an assigned campus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Monthly Salary: $4,563.64-$5,653.55 monthly
*Salary Information is based on a full-time, 12-month position
Health Benefits: District-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for employee and dependents. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided free of charge for each employee. A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with $1,500 contributed by LACCD annually.
Paid Time Off: 12 full-pay days and 88 half-pay days of illness leave per year, at least 16 paid holidays per year, and accrued vacation time from 10-24 days per year depending on the position. Other paid time off options are also available.
Retirement: Employees become members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) pension. Employees are also covered by Social Security.

TYPICAL DUTIES
Safely transports students, faculty, and/or staff with disabilities to various points within assigned campus areas using a light shuttle vehicle.
Provides assistance to students with disabilities in boarding and exiting the vehicle.
Maintains safe riding practices on the vehicle.
Inspects vehicle prior to and at the end of each shift for mechanical condition affecting safety of operation and for physical condition of the vehicle.
Adheres to assigned route unless service is suspended or rescheduled.
Keeps vehicles in clean condition.
Performs minor emergency maintenance and repairs.
Reports the need for regular servicing or repairs of the vehicles to the immediate supervisor.
Reports hazardous or dangerous conditions along route.
Conducts routine patrols and inspections to assist by observing and reporting concerns regarding the safety and security of individuals, buildings, grounds and equipment.
Assists in monitoring security systems such as intrusion detection devices, video monitors, and alarm systems.
Reaches out to police or other emergency personnel to report crime and non-crime related incidents on an assigned campus.
Provides directions to visitors, students, faculty, and/or staff.
Performs parking enforcement tasks including checking vehicles for proper parking authorizations and issuing citations for parking and related violations.
Directs traffic flow into parking lots and facilities and ensures efficient utilization of parking space.
Provides safety escorts upon request.
Maintains records and prepares reports related to observed incidents and problems.
Performs related duties as assigned.

The hiring list established by this examination will also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the life of the list.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
One year of full-time, paid experience driving a passenger shuttle, van or bus. Experience as a security guard or equivalent is desirable.
Special:
A valid Class “C” California driver’s license.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Prior to employment all successful candidates must provide proof of a driver’s record with the California Department of Motor Vehicles that meets acceptable standards for the transportation of passengers.

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may consist of one or more exam parts which may include a training and experience evaluation, written test, performance test and/or oral interview.
Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are placed on an eligibility (hiring) list based on their overall exam score. In accordance with legal requirements, hiring departments may make job offers to candidates in the top three ranks of the eligibility list.
