Director, People - HRBP - Aliso Viejo, CA (Hybrid - in-office 3 days a week)
The Director, People provides HR consultation, direction and hands on execution in the areas of people strategy, change management and leadership development to assigned business groups. The role formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The role also serves as an employee advocate while balancing business strategies and maintaining an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its mid-term and long-term plans, its culture and its competition. The Director, HRBP is a critical member of the HR Leadership Team that drives full cycle Human Resources services to several senior leaders of the organization and their respective organizations.
Essential Functions - Tactical Execution:
- Work with Legal, Compliance and HR colleagues to maintain regulatory knowledge and compliance with current laws and regulations and ensuring consistent interpretation and application of HR policy.
- Partner with People Ops team to ensure policy is executed accurately and department programs are administered efficiently while meeting the business' needs.
- Contribute to HR strategy and program development, bringing perspective on business and employees' needs and sentiment.
- Strategic Partner:
- Meet regularly with client group executives and stakeholders to understand changing priorities of the business and people challenges within their department.
- Align local HRBP strategy for client groups with business strategy, leveraging programs and tools.
- Org design and org effectiveness: support client group leadership teams in designing the organization to deliver business strategy.
- Support growth of leaders through general coaching and development planning.
- Employee & Business Champion:
- Drive culture and engagement through maintaining strong connection with employee population to understand and respond to trends in morale.
- Support leaders in the interpretation and reaction to employee engagement survey data.
- Lead team in investigation and coaching of employee relations issues, including complaints/grievances.
- Ensure leaders are appropriately planning for the development of high potential employees to increase bench strength and increase engagement.
- Facilitate the performance management process for client groups.
- Change Agent:
- Identify and address training, development and recruitment needs and implement solutions for client groups.
- Support with change management on re-organizations or other changes to the business.
- Lead or support special projects for the enterprise, including engagement initiatives and other development activities.
- Team Leader:
- Maintain morale within the HRBP team and ensure appropriate collaboration.
- Develop employees and support them in contributing to company-wide initiatives.
- Special Projects:
- Drive various compensation initiatives (including incentive program design) in partnership with various stakeholders.
- Employee Pulse Survey action planning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience
- 8+ year of business partner experience

- Ability to nurture relationships of trust with clients and colleagues quickly to build sensitivity and insight on the business' needs and preferences.
- Excellent business acumen, including learning the business quickly, the ability to translate business strategy into HR/ client group priorities and understand business performance as it relates to the bottom-line.
- A readiness to "roll up your sleeves" and drive tactical processes and improvements in support of client group needs.
- Understanding of employee motivation and leadership theory to enable coaching and influencing the executives and broader organization and partnering in problem solving with all levels of the organization.
- Employee relations experience, including resolving grievances, handling investigations and disciplinary action and mediating disputes with good judgment- consistently thinking critically and assessing situations in the context of the bigger picture; with sensitivity to both the employees' and the business's needs.
- Expertise in assessing management and executive talent.
- A team player who will serve their own team and flex and lean-in to support department-wide programs and initiatives:
- Work very well independently, able to collaborate and communicate with internal team members both remote and onsite
- Broad experience and specific knowledge of human resource theory, including employee relations, learning, and performance management.
- Effective communicator in writing, facilitation, able to drive change, facilitate internal communication processes, and facilitate dissemination of internal customer information.
Preferred - Master's degree.
- SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential.
- Biotech and other Life Sciences industry experience
