The US base salary range for this position is $40-$50/hr + benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Summary
The Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist is responsible for managing employee leave and return to work processes, ensuring a smooth and compliant process for colleagues while adhering to legal requirements and company policies. This role involves coordinating with HR, business leaders, colleagues, and third-party leave and workers' compensation administrators.
Responsibilities
- Manage Leave Requests: Evaluate and process requests for various types of leave (FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, etc.), including coordination of state paid benefit programs.
- Consultation: Provide guidance to colleagues regarding leave policies, procedures, and their rights, including state paid benefit programs.
- Return to Work: Review and audit the Return to Work process for claims, including the Return to Work transitional program. Collaborate with external vendors and internal business units to ensure compliance.
- Documentation Review: Review medical documentation and other required paperwork to ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for colleagues on leave, maintaining regular communication to address concerns and provide updates.
- Collaboration: Work with HR, payroll, and management to ensure proper leave administration and return-to-work processes.
- Compliance Monitoring: Stay updated on federal, state, and local leave laws to ensure compliance and implement necessary policy changes.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of leave requests, approvals, and denials.
- Reporting: Generate reports on leave trends, usage, and compliance metrics for management.
- Benefits Support: Assist with benefit-related inquiries and support the Benefits Team as needed, particularly in areas related to leave of absence and workers’ compensation.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in HR, with a minimum of 2 years direct experience supporting employee leaves of absence, worker’s compensation, and related benefits in a fast-paced professional organization.
- Experience with and understanding of HR policies and practices and state and federal employment laws.
- Experienced with Workday HCM and third-party benefits applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Coordinate with vendors or the legal team on complex claims related to leave of absence.
- Provide support during the open enrollment process for benefits programs, focusing on leave-related benefits.
