Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer/Project Manager to join our team in the Grand Rapids or Novi, MI office to service municipal clients located in each area. The qualified candidate will be a licensed engineer and have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience working with communities from design through construction on a broad range of municipal projects. This opportunity is best suited for candidates who possess a strong technical background, a proven record of client interaction, and the ability to plan and manage design and construction engineering efforts. The position requires a person who is thorough, self-directed and has sound interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels. Candidates who have the ambition to take on a role in business development and marketing in the near future, are desired.
Primary Functions
- Develop proposals, permits, project plans, and schedules.
- Manage the design, development, and implementation of projects.
- Represent clients at public meetings, perform contract negotiation and administration, and project budgeting.
- Providing design direction for less experienced staff and assisting to develop and provide technical mentorship.
- Design of municipal public works and utility projects, construction contract administration, project management, and client contact.
- Plan and design for water main, sanitary sewer, and road projects for local municipalities.
- Perform design calculations, quantify bid items, develop cost estimates, budgeting and prepare reports.
- Work closely with marketing and technical staff to assist in proposal writing.
- Interact daily with staff in a multi-office environment.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Exposed to occasional lifting and carrying. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to sit and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and maneuvering around project sites for attending client and project meetings and site observations. Able to use various technical equipment for communication and documentation. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Desired Skills/Experience
- Licensed PE (MI PE preferred or able to acquire via reciprocity within 6 months).
- 10+ years of civil/municipal experience working with local governments.
- Strong public presentation and solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD and Civil3D for bidding document preparation.
- Previous project management and client liaison experience and a strong ambition to step into that role.
