Description:The Manager of Nursing Excellence and Magnet Program Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight in the implementation and sustainment of the Magnet Recognition Program within the hospital. This position will drive efforts to enhance nursing practice, leadership, and patient care quality by ensuring the nursing department adheres to the standards required for Magnet designation. The role will also focus on promoting a culture of continuous improvement, excellence, and evidence-based practices throughout the nursing workforce.
Reporting to the CNO, this individual will collaborate with nursing leadership, staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support professional development, improve patient outcomes, and promote an environment of excellence in clinical care. The Magnet Program Director will play a key role in the hospital's journey to maintain and achieve Magnet recognition, ensuring that nursing services are aligned with the highest standards of care, innovation, and leadership.
Position responsibilities:
Magnet Recognition and Maintenance:- Lead and coordinate all activities related to the hospital's Magnet designation and re-designation, including preparation for surveys and documentation requirements.
- Serve as the primary contact for Magnet-related activities, ensuring compliance with the Magnet Model standards (e.g., transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation, and improvements in patient outcomes).
- Act as a liaison with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to maintain Magnet status and drive the hospital's Magnet journey.
Program Leadership and Strategy:- Develop and implement strategies to promote nursing excellence and quality improvement initiatives aligned with the Magnet framework.
- Foster a culture of clinical excellence, shared governance, and continuous learning across the nursing staff.
- Oversee the creation and dissemination of evidence-based practices, ensuring nursing care is patient-centered, efficient, and of the highest quality.
Collaboration and Team Building:- Collaborate with senior leadership, including the CNO, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams, to drive initiatives that support the Magnet program and enhance nursing care standards.
- Support nursing staff in the development and implementation of new initiatives aimed at improving clinical practice, patient safety, and staff satisfaction.
- Lead and engage Nursing Practice Councils, Quality Committees, and other related groups focused on advancing clinical practice and ensuring alignment with Magnet principles.
Professional Development and Education:- Promote ongoing education and professional development for nursing staff at all levels.
- Work closely with the Center for Professional Practice and Development to design programs that enhance leadership, clinical expertise, and career progression for nursing personnel.
Data Analysis and Performance Improvement:- Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to nursing outcomes, including patient satisfaction, staff engagement, clinical quality, and patient safety.
- Use data to identify areas for improvement, develop strategies to address gaps, and track progress toward organizational goals.
- Ensure that nursing excellence is continuously measured and reported in accordance with Magnet standards.
Financial Management:- Manages the relationship between value-based purchasing, quality outcomes, and reimbursement. Analyzes and explains budget variances. Creates a capital plan and justify return on investments.
- Continually assess ways to reduce cost and/or improve quality to promote high value patient care. Oversees the development of an ROI analysis for the human and equipment capital that contributes to nursing excellence.
Human Resource Management:- Leads people in accordance with local, state, and national labor laws.
- Effectively recruits and retains colleagues.
- Assess, develops, and implements engagement tactics at the unit level. Collaborates and partner with education and quality leaders to effectively develop orientation and training plans for all staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations, including coaching, improvement plans, and corrective action.
- Applies Just Culture principles.
Performance Improvement:
- Improves (clinical and non-clinical) performance using evidence-based approaches (such as PDSA).
- Assesses and develops tactics to engage internal and external customers.
- Participates in and implements organizational patient experience tactics and strategies.
- Promotes a culture of safety through the participation all aspects of the safety plan.
- Employs evidence -based leadership tactics to assess and inform the quality and safety at the unit level (such as purposeful rounding. Maintains regulatory readiness (all regulatory bodies).
- Leads and oversees nursing excellence activities and professional governance. Follows and monitors organizational policies and procedures.
- Drives Trinity and MacNeal Hospital specific annual goals.
Technology and data:- Understands and utilizes information technologies to promote patient care and quality. Integrates technology into evidence-based leadership tactics. Uses data to inform decisions and to improve safety and quality.

Position Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN).
- 1-2 years of previous job-related experience, 3-5 years preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois
Managerial Experience: 1-2 years
Other: ANCC approved nursing certification required. Specialty certification in a clinical or functional area of nursing granted by a national nursing organization is preferred.
