Job Summary
The Lead Investment Accounting Advisor will be part of the Accounting Advisory team at F&G which is responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP and Statutory reporting for F&G and its insurance carriers. This position will be responsible for evaluating, providing accounting advice, and documenting F&G’s accounting positions related to its onboarding of strategic new investments in addition to the existing investment portfolio, derivative and hedging strategies, and support with other new projects the Company may take up. As a core contributor to the team, this position will become a key point of contact for professionals throughout the organization for accounting inquiries.
This position will report to the Director, Accounting Advisory and will work cross functionally within the finance department, mainly - Financial Reporting, Investment Accounting, Finance Transformation, Investment FP&A, Tax, and Capital Management & Solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and document appropriate GAAP and Statutory accounting and reporting requirements for strategic assets that are sourced by our investment portfolio manager, Blackstone.
- Work closely with Blackstone portfolio managers and the F&G Chief Investment Office to analyze complex investment structures and clearly communicate the accounting and reporting requirements for those respective structures.
- Analyze the use of hedge accounting to account for and record derivatives used by the company for risk management purposes by collaborating with the chief investment and risk offices to understand their risk management goals and the accounting and reporting outcomes that may be possible.
- Monitor investment and derivative related GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance updates to assess applicability to the Company.
- Disseminate the impact of new accounting guidance throughout the organization and working cross-functionally to ensure the Company is appropriately aware of the impacts of all relevant accounting literature.
- Support the creation and maintenance of the Company’s investment related accounting policies
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting required
- 5-7 years experience
- CPA highly preferred
- Recent Sarbanes-Oxley experience preferred
- Experience researching accounting guidance or previous accounting policy experience
- Extensive knowledge of investment related areas for GAAP accounting preferred (e.g., ASC 310, ASC 321, ASC 325-40, ASC 326, ASC 810, ASC 815, ASC 830, ASC 860)
- Extensive knowledge of investment related areas for Statutory accounting preferred (e.g., SSAP 23, SSAP 26R, SSAP 37, SSAP 43R, SSAP 48, SSAP 86, SSAP 97, and an understanding of the AVR and IMR concepts that exist for Statutory reporting)
- Big 4 experience preferred in the insurance audit practice or an accounting advisory role that focuses on accounting for insurance products and reinsurance transactions would be a plus
