VCA Green is seeking an Energy Specialist capable of coordinating and delivering energy models based on industry standards such as Title 24 Energy Code, ASHRAE 90.1, and LEED. Responsibilities include energy modeling utilizing CBEC-COM, Energy Pro and/or IES, and acting as a technical expert advising VCA’s clients and project management teams on code and alignment to client’s project requirements.
This position requires a strong understanding of energy modeling with the ability to learn other software and apply principles to scopes of work. We anticipate the successful candidate will either be a CEA or be able to earn a CEA within 6-12 months of employment. They will be able to support the energy modeling supervisor with process improvement and task delegation.
During the first 12 months:
- Learn about VCA-Green, its history, services, employees, projects and clients.
- Learn about the systems and software programs used by VCA Green. Specifically, learn how to input data, file, organize, and maintain internal files and processes.
- Be in possession of a RESNET HERS Modeling Certification.
- Complete low rise residential energy models using one of the following approved RESNET software packages – APEX, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge.
- Complete low rise, RESNET HERS energy models with no supervision.
- Ability to produce residential and non-residential energy models with little supervision.
- Possess familiarity with heat transfer principles, such as conduction, convection and radiation transfer.
- Gain deeper understanding of California Energy Code and ASHRAE 90.1.
- Be proficient in understanding typical building envelopes, HVAC systems, and water heating technologies that are seen on most projects.
- Provide information on energy efficiency measures based on modeling outputs to clients and project management team.
- Complete 7 California modeled buildings while recommending energy conservation measures to improve performance.
- Show ability to communicate energy model-specific details to project team members.
- Suggest process improvements in coordination with supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience performing energy modeling for built environment.
- CABEC CEA certification preferred
- Advanced knowledge of CBECC 2022 or EnergyPro v9
- Experience with other energy modeling and load calculation software applications (EnergyPro, IES-VE, Energy Plus, E-Quest, Wrightsoft, Trane Trace)
- Ability to read architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction drawings.
- Solid communication and writing skills.
- Ability to closely track projects and tasks to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality deliverables and client expectations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications.
