Job Summary:
Provides a total therapeutic recreation program to meet both group and individual needs. To provide therapeutic recreational activities through which patients can maximize their social/interpersonal, and physical capabilities. Utilizes therapeutic recreation activities and community resources to help facilitate improvement of an individuals leisure lifestyle.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Plans, organizes, conducts and improves a wide range of group and individual therapeutic activities (leisure education, wellness groups, and social events).
- Continuously reviews and evaluates ongoing recreation groups and programs/services to meet the needs of patient populations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Assess, delivers and evaluates individual and group needs for therapeutic recreational activity.
- Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary teaching and treatment team.
- Coordinates recreation therapy objectives for individual patients with that of the total treatment plan.
- Weekly reevaluates and maintains records on patient treatment/progress.
- Provides individual counseling, education and teaching to assist patients in planning their use of leisure time in the community.
- Evaluates purchases and maintains equipment and supplies.
- Helps coordinate and maintain the usage of the physical space, facilities, and equipment.
- May train and supervise clinical education/practice of recreation therapy students and other students in allied health field.
- Provides in-service education in the field of Therapeutic Recreation to other members of the health care staff, as needed.
- Maintains and improves professional development/expertise through professional journals, workshops, conferences and other related educational opportunities.
- Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years psychiatric or chemical dependency experience may be required as appropriate for specific positions.
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Course work sufficient to allow individual to take the CTRS or RTC exam.
License, Certification, Registration
- Recreational Therapist Certificate (California) OR Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certificate
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
