The Director of New Jersey Programs will spearhead the oversight of City Relief’s efforts in Paterson & Newark, New Jersey. This encompasses more than just directing outreach events; it includes overseeing guest care, pursuing and managing community partnerships, and investing in senior volunteers and interns. The Director of NJ Programs will lead a team of staff, interns, and volunteers who will relentlessly pursue solutions to close the gap between a guest’s needs and available resources such as housing, shelter, employment, detox, and much more. This role will also serve as the NJ representative in local CoCs or other committees as well as with our church partnerships. This role encompasses multiple aspects of our organization’s program services and is extremely entrepreneurial; it will require flexibility in all aspects of the job, including but not limited to schedule and responsibilities.
The Director of New Jersey Programs will be part of the Program Leadership Team, working in collaboration with the Director of NY Programs and the Director of Volunteer Services. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy & Evaluation:
- Recruit, manage, and retain a high-performing NJ programs team; Create and maintain a team culture of Christ-centered compassion and service
- Work with the Program Leadership Team to build and manage an infrastructure and process to best serve the homeless and those near homelessness in Paterson and Newark
- Develop and implement creative outreach strategies to improve outreaches and initiatives, including management of office space
- Collaborate with the Program Leadership Team to develop and implement best practices and SOPs to strengthen outreaches and guest care efforts
- Monitor and analyze programmatic Key Performance Indicators to assess effectiveness of departmental impact in NJ, making operational adjustments as needed.
- Lead the department in compliance with Social Work Code of Ethics and evidence-based practices
- Provide field supervision to social work interns as needed
Program Operations:
- Direct & oversee the operations and Continuum of Care for all NJ outreach initiatives (i.e. pop-up events, mobile outreach, co-ops), maximizing impact and effectiveness
- Direct & oversee systems for emergency care and service delivery, incl. phones, hotel stays, City Relief ID, transportation to partners, emergency health care, etc.)
- Provide leadership and guidance in the intervention and crisis management of complex and challenging cases (relating to mental, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and addictive disorders)
- Equip guest care coordinators to create and implement effective treatment plans (Individual Care Plans) that can assist in the individual’s journey out of homelessness
- Overall responsibility for the management of NJ programming safety protocols and procedures, including staff CISD debriefs as needed
- Direct & oversee use of case management software to manage guest information, caseloads, and outcomes
- Work with the volunteer team to recruit and manage specialized volunteers to support the work of the departments
- Manage and oversee department budget expenses and income; assist the Development team with NJ specific grants when applicable
Partnership Development:
- Develop, maintain and grow strategic relationships with new and existing organizations, churches, and communities for ongoing partnership that will enhance our outreach and follow up care services
- Serve as the City Relief NJ representative with city officials, local CoCs or other committees as needed
- Work to strengthen the Network of Care in Paterson and Newark; sustain and expand the network of services that exists to help the homeless community access the best resources available
- Support outreach efforts by managing relationships with co-op sites and connections to communities at outreach sites
Requirements
- Case management experience
- Have a growing mastery of local resources and politics in New Jersey, specifically in Paterson & Newark
- Team leadership experience
- Excels in project management and strategy
- Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Heart of compassion for those experiencing homelessness
- High capacity for dealing with conflict resolution and problem solving
Preferred Qualifications
- L.C.S.W and/or similar level of qualification
- CASAC and/or similar level of experience
- Experience with Social Solutions software and/or similar case management software
- Experience in mission work and/or hands on ministry experience
- Speaks Spanish (bilingual)
Hours, full time. Monday – Friday to be alternated with Tuesday - Saturday to provide Saturday outreach oversight twice a month.
