Summary:
This is an opportunity to lead the warm community of engaged learners, talented and caring teachers and devoted families at the Tarrytown Nursery School, a cooperative preschool that has been serving the community for more than seventy years with their play-based learning environment. The Executive Director will ensure effective day to day operation for the school. Duties will include managing a staff of 10+ educators, building and maintaining enrollment, overseeing and developing classroom curriculum, establishing positive communications with the families and the community at large, ensuring digital presence of the school, ensuring facility maintenance, and overseeing all operational and business functions.
The Executive Director will report directly to the Parent Board. A good candidate will be energetic and passionate about the care and nurturing of children and their families, supportive of teachers, and dedicated to details and rule adherence required to operate successfully in an OCFS regulated environment.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s and/or aster’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
- 3+ years of full-time teaching experience in a child day care center or other early childhood program
- 3+ years of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work
- Experience working in an OCFS licensed daycare and experience with OCFS licensing requirements; previous experience as an OCFS site director is a plus
- New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential is a plus
Job Responsibilities:
- Staff Management & Curriculum Development
- Hire, grow, and support staff and teachers, including professional development. Create a positive and enriching work environment.
- Recruit and screen candidates for staff positions
- Conduct the hiring as per the by-laws; oversee training and onboarding, supervision and evaluation of staff
- Hold monthly meetings with staff to discuss school business, student/parent issues, areas of concern, etc.
- Work with the Director Education to create an educational vision for the school and staff and train and support teachers in creating a classroom curriculum that reflects Tarrytown Nursery School educational philosophy
- Support classroom experiences and teachers needs with resources, assessing and addressing environmental, child educational and development needs.
- Business Operations & Financial Management
- Manage staff payroll, distribute W2’s, complete and return various annual forms including workers comp, insurance forms, and unemployment claims
- Reconcile school bank account on a monthly basis, oversee all billing and the collection of tuition and late fee payments
- Ensure state and federal “Wage and Hour” employment laws are followed including: overtime payments, rest and meal periods
- Prepare monthly financial reports and budget for the up-coming year; and with the Parent Board to negotiate the salaries and contracts of the staff of the coming year
- Oversee the enrollment process, including lottery, financial aid, waitlists, and classroom placements; keeping the school at maximum capacity
- Manage school licensing requirements ensuring compliance with OCFS regulations, health and safety of the school, and building and location requirements
- School leadership & Fundraising
- Act as school leader; greet families upon entering and be available to discuss questions/ concerns. Hold regular office hours
- Market, promote and publicize school registration, activities and events to members and potential members through press releases, emails, social media, etc.
- Develop local and regional partnerships for TTNS activities
- Write and manage grants to support school activities, especially for scholarship purposes
- Staff Representative to the Parent Board
- Advise and work with the Parent Board throughout the year, providing the information, support, and documents needed to run the board
- Keep all the Parent Board informed by the timely reports deemed necessary required by the Parent Board, required by the by-laws, or required by law
- Identify and research issues for the Board of Directors
- Attend monthly board meetings and update board re: school happenings and any areas of concern
