Opportunity:
We have an immediate opening for a Municipal Law Associate. Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of experience in general municipal law, working with public agencies, and demonstrating effective communication skills.
The ideal candidate will excel in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, be a self-starter, and be able to work effectively with agency staff and elected officials.
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in California and be based in Sacramento or the surrounding areas. This is a hybrid position that does not require working from the Oakland Office.
Key Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Advising on open government issues (Brown Act, Conflicts of Interest, Public Records Act)
• Conducting legal research and analysis
• Drafting legal memoranda
• Preparing ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents
• Providing on-site client support during office hours
• Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing agreements and contracts
• Attending meetings with Department Heads and staff
• Assisting City Clerks with agenda review items
• Performing other similar tasks as assigned to support the Firm’s clients
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to the State Bar of California and in good standing
• At least 3 years of experience in municipal law
• Working knowledge of the Brown Act, the Public Records Act, and Conflict of Interest law
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Capable of working independently and inspiring confidence in clients

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $155,000 – $185,000 annually, plus annual discretionary merit and billable hours bonuses. Our firm will consider various factors in final compensation, including skills, qualifications, and experience. Redwood Public Law offers a competitive benefits package, which includes health, vision, dental insurance, long/short-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) plan.
