Job Summary:
Works as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on assignments that are routine in nature and within authorized duties of the CNA 2 Acute Care. Tasks performed have predetermined procedures and guidance and supervision is provided as needed. Position supports RN in patient care delivery as dictated by comfort and safety and in accordance with identified training and certification.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Problem Solving: Work tasks are fully defined. Refers more difficult issues to RN.

Adheres to and supports KP policies and Principles of Responsibility. Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies. - Performs Tasks & Procedures (Implementation): Performs assigned tasks competently and demonstrates operational knowledge of procedures, therapies, special tests and equipment within scope of knowledge and training. Vital Signs. Temperature. Pulse. Respiration. B/P - manual and electronic. Pain Level. Pulse oximetry. Warm and cold therapies. Warm and cold compresses. Ice bags, ice gloves, or dry cold pack. Heated soaks and whirlpool or sitz baths. Data gathering. Newborn hearing screening (Maternal/Child). Replacing electrodes and leads on monitored unit. Bladder scanning. Capillary blood glucose (CBG) testing. Placing electrodes and leads and/or running 12-lead electrocardiogram or three lead rhythm strips. Testing of gastric contents and stool for occult blood and pH. Applying topical over-the-counter creams and ointment(s) for prophylactic treatment for skin conditions. Applying pediculicides. Applying sequential compression devices. Assisting patients in and out of Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machines. Assist patient to cough and dry breathe. Suctioning oral pharynx. Turning oxygen on and off at pre-established flow rate. Using incentive spirometry. Clean ostomy site and change dressing or appliances for established, non-acute ostomies on intact skin. Collect clean catch urine specimens. Discontinue Foley catheter at direction of RN. Measure, record, and/or empty output from drainage devices and closed drainage systems. Demonstrates department, job and age-specific competencies.
- Safety Practices: Promotes a safe patient environment by proactively reporting errors, near misses or systemic hazards and participating in their resolution. Promotes patient safety through diligent adherence to policies and procedures. Maintains a safe, ergonomically correct, and hazard-free environment for patient, visitors, staff and self. Prevents injury or illness through proactive, safe work practices and follows health and safety policies and procedures. Regularly observes fire and life safety policies and procedures. Completes environmental and health safety training per policies. Demonstrates the use of defined emergency response procedures.
