We have an exciting opportunity for you to make a difference in Azusa Unified schools! We are currently looking for motivated people who love cooking, have a hunger for knowledge, and feel a deep desire to make a difference in the community.
Our hybrid program is 7 weeks long and includes:
- 3 online School Food Institute Courses: 20 hours (3 hours pre-read, 3 hours homework, 9 hours online learning)
- 2 virtual learning sessions on Zoom: 3 hours (2 sessions, 1.5 hours each)
- On-the-job learning at the district: 84 hours (in person 12 hours a week)
By participating in the Pre-Apprenticeship, you will build your professional knowledge and gain hands-on experience of what it takes to make scratch-cook meal programs happen in schools. Participants who successfully complete pre-apprenticeship receive a certificate of completion from the Department of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) and are eligible to apply for the Apprenticeship.
For on-site work, Food Services Pre-Apprentices work with the Director of Food Services, Food Services Administrative Team and Food Services Team preparing food, receiving supplies, working as assigned doing production food preparation, transport pack outs, dish machine and pot washing sink operations, inventory and storage organization and general kitchen cleaning as part of maintaining a safe food production and service environment in the district’s kitchens.
The spring program begins on March 31st and ends on May 23rd, 2025. Apply by January 31, 2025
