Low boy Truck Driver
Position Summary
As a Low Boy Driver, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient transport of heavy equipment and machinery across various routes. This position requires excellent driving skills, strong attention to load security, and adherence to transportation regulations. You will be responsible for ensuring your vehicle is in good working order, securing your loads, and collaborating with dispatch to ensure timely deliveries and meet delivery schedules. Your role directly contributes to the success of our operations and overall customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties
• Safely transport heavy equipment and machinery between assigned locations, adhering to all safety and traffic laws.
• Secure loads on the low boy trailer using appropriate methods to prevent shifting during transit.
• Operate in various driving conditions, including highways, rural roads, and construction sites, often navigating challenging terrains.
• Maintain communication with dispatch to report progress, delays, or route changes.
• Ensure proper documentation of all loads and maintain electronic logbooks in accordance with DOT regulations.
• Follow all FMCSA, DOT, and company safety regulations and guidelines.
• Use individual judgment during long stretches of driving to address on-the-road issues and make operational decisions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Plan routes to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime, considering road restrictions, weight limits, and traffic patterns.
• Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues that may arise during trips, utilizing knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
• Coordinate with dispatch to meet delivery schedules and manage any unforeseen issues during transit.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and industry regulations, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance and load security.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate load documentation, electronic logbooks, and vehicle inspection records.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections as a preventative maintenance measure, ensuring vehicle safety and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Permit with the ability to meet FMCSA standards.
• Clean driving record as reflected in an MVR over the past three (3) years, with no serious traffic violations or major preventable accidents.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT physical.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in operating manual transmission vehicles.
• Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and make informed decisions on the road.
• Willingness to train with a preference for previous commercial truck driving experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Possess a valid Class A CDL with double/triple endorsements.
• Minimum of two (2) years of low boy or heavy haul driving experience.
• Proven track record of safe, efficient driving with a deep understanding of heavy haul regulations.
• Familiarity with navigating construction sites and rural roads.
• Maintain precise records in accordance with DOT regulations, including logbooks, inspection reports, and maintenance documents, to ensure smooth audits and uphold the company's commitment to safety and compliance.
• Experience using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to maintain accurate hours of service records.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands required to perform the essential functions of a Low Boy Driver include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to meet these demands.
This position frequently requires the driver to sit for extended periods while operating the truck, as well as climb in and out of the cab multiple times per day. Regular use of hands to signal, secure, and handle equipment is essential. Drivers must also occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms. Lifting objects up to 75 lbs. is required.
Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Drivers must be capable of working in varied weather conditions.
The role involves driving primarily on highways and rural roads, securing cargo, and maintaining the truck. It requires physical stamina and attention to detail to ensure compliance and safety.
