JOB SUMMARY:
The role of an Acupuncturist focuses on utilizing an alternative form of medicine techniques to enhance health and well-being of the Axis patient community. The primary role is to assess patients’ health conditions, develop tailored treatment plans, and perform acupuncture procedures to alleviate pain, manage stress, and treat various ailments. Acupuncturists also educate patients on holistic health practices and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care. The role combines technical expertise, a deep understanding of traditional medicine, and a commitment to improving a patient’s quality of life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide all services in accordance with established medical standards, organizational policies, contractual requirements, and in a manner that addresses the needs of all patients.
• Delivers patient care through interviews, examinations, and treatments, addressing individual clinical needs.
• Document all services in the patient’s electronic medical record, ensuring that medical records are complete, accurate, and legible in accordance with established protocols, and actively participate in the peer review process.
• Consults with supervisor and other providers on staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
• Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs as required.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to state and federal guidelines and regulations.
• Ensures clinical staff compliance with clinic protocols, including patient flow and procedural processes.
• Maintain a high level of awareness of evolving medical practices, and work in collaboration with the Director of Acupuncture and Chief Integration Officer to develop and implement new practices and protocols as appropriate.
• Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and utilization review activities as assigned.
• Educate patients on lifestyle changes, dietary recommendations, and complementary therapies to enhance treatment outcomes.
• Oversee team performance, provide guidance and support, delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, foster professional development, and ensure alignment with organization goals.
• Participate in company staff meetings, and Community Health Center network meetings as needed and activities where involvement of the clinical staff is required, in addition to attending other meetings and training events as assigned.
• May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field is highly desirable. Completion of a graduate level or Master’s degree in Acupuncture program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) is essential.
• Current valid license from the California Acupuncture Board with an assigned NPI number, and any other credentialing items required by managed Medi-Cal plans.
• Proficient in utilizing acupuncture to treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain and other common health issues.
• Knowledge of managed Medi-Cal covered diagnoses, treatments and appropriate billing is highly desirable.
• Skilled in maintaining accurate, clear, and legible records with proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems.
• Experienced in working collaboratively within a care team and practicing whole-person care, with the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate shared treatment plans with team members.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish and/or other languages is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm, determination, and energy in establishing internal and external partnerships while professionally representing Axis Community Health.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, develop, and manage a team to achieve organization goals.
• Strong analytical, employee relations, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Excellent writing, business communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.
• Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships.
• Must be able to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
• Must be able to be at work regularly and on time.
• Must be a dynamic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently or in a group setting.
• A can-do attitude with attention to detail, with the ability to organize and multi-task effectively.
• Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM with minimal errors.
• Must be able to use office equipment (i.e. copier, fax, etc.).
• Scheduled hours of work: Monday 8:00am-5:00pm, Tuesday 1:00pm-5:00pm, Thursday 1:00pm-5:00pm, Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work is normally performed in a typical clinic office work environment (and, in some cases, telecommuting sites). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Physical: Occasionally required to carry/lift/push/pull/move up to 20lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, reaching over the shoulder, reaching over the head, reaching outward, sitting, walking on various surfaces, standing, and bending. Occasional travel to other Axis health centers and other occasional travel will be required.
Equipment: Frequently required to use repetitive motion of hands and feet to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier, and other office equipment for extended periods.
Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and signage. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with staff etc. Must be able to speak clearly, understand normal communication, and be understood. Must be able to see clearly and have the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.
Cognitive: Must be able to analyze the information being received, count accurately, concentrate and focus on the given task, summarize the information being received, accurately interpret written data, synthesize information from multiple sources, write summaries as needed, interpret written or verbal instructions, and recognize social or professional behavioral cues.
Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office (medical clinic/office) environments. Rare exposure to dust and loud noises.
