Parks and Grounds Maintenance Workers are an essential part of maintaining Sonoma County. These positions work at locations across the County, maintaining parks, bike trails, open spaces and other landscaped areas. Locations include Spring Lake, Sonoma Valley, Central Area, Coastal (Bodega Bay, Gualala - Stillwater), and Russian River park areas.
As a Parks and Grounds Maintenance Worker I, you will:
- Perform landscaping work such as pruning, mowing, irrigation repair, weeding, planting, and spreading mulch
- Maintain landscaping and grounds keeping
- Service, maintain, and operate landscaping power equipment and irrigation systems
- Maintain Park buildings, equipment, gardens, and grounds
- Assist with construction and repairs throughout various parks and marinas within Sonoma County
- Assist with fabricating park signage, interpretative displays, banners, and other graphic materials
The ideal candidates will possess many of the following:
- Experience with general landscaping duties, parks and grounds-maintenance, and/or construction projects performed outdoors
- Familiar with irrigation and plant knowledge
- Experience with landscaping tools such as mowers, string trimmers, and blowers
- Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact with staff, external customers, and the public
- Strong problem-solving skills and the determination to be solution-oriented
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires shifting gears quickly
- The ability to make independent decisions, be a self-starter, and enjoy staying busy
Please note: This position requires a valid class C driver's license, wearing a uniform, and working in various weather conditions. Work hours may vary, and include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis.
