The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing a wide range of administrative and HR related tasks for the Human Resources Department. The ideal candidate should have experience and general knowledge in all aspects of Human Resources and be able to successfully navigate various disciplines while maintaining compliance across multiple states. This is a dynamic role that requires the ability to prioritize and execute tasks under strict time constraints while maintaining the utmost confidentiality. Specific areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to:
• Hiring and Terminations: Post and maintain ads, draft job descriptions, send offer letters, run background checks, order pre-employment drug screens, coordinate new hire tasks, create and maintain employee files, process final checks/separation paperwork, etc.
• Benefits Administration: Oversee benefit enrollments and terms, answer employee questions, coordinate and administer Open Enrollment, assist with reconciliations, implement wellness programs, handle annual ACA tasks, etc.
• Leave Administration: Administer all aspects of various employee leaves across multiple states to ensure compliance including, but not limited to, FMLA, state-specific family medical leaves, ADA leave, etc.
• Compliance: Work closely with Safety Department and HR Director to help ensure multi-state, federal and transportation-specific compliance across all aspects of the department; handle OSHA documentation and annual reporting, handle EEOC compliance and reporting, etc.
• Multi-State Payroll: Assist with/administer multi-state payroll processing and time audits while staying abreast of ever-changing multi-state wage and hour laws to ensure compliance.
• Workers Compensation: Work closely with Safety Department and HR Director to administer and oversee various aspects of multi-state Worker’s Compensation requirements, including a robust return-to-work and modified duty program.
• Employee Relations: Field employee phone calls and emails, answer questions, provide benefit enrollment assistance, handle grievances, implement morale initiatives, etc.
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
• Degree or certificate in human resources or related field with appropriate coursework, OR equivalent education and experience that would prepare one for the responsibilities outlined in the job description.
• 3-5 years HR Generalist experience required.
• High level of proven experience, knowledge, and expertise in multi-state compliance.
• Related transportation and logistics experience a huge plus but not required.
• Proficient with the use of computers including Human Resource management software, spreadsheets, word processing, and payroll software.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently by planning tasks, setting and meeting appropriate deadlines, and delivering results.
• Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively on a project team. Uses excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with others at all levels of the company.
• Must be a highly-motivated, extremely dependable individual with a self-starter mentality and a commitment to accuracy and excellence.
• Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively express ideas at multiple levels of the organization and draft professional documentation/correspondence.
• Must be committed to acting with integrity and professionalism, using appropriate discretion, and maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Ability to remain patient, calm, and diplomatic during demanding situations.
• Ability to solve problems, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and meet project deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• While performing duties of this job would occasionally be required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
