OverviewThis position assesses and manages the company's exposure by serving as the risk management business partner between the company, agents, and our customers virtually. The role includes reviewing and evaluating the level of risk presented by various operations, existing exposures, and controls, as well as the effectiveness of the customer's application of those controls. When applicable, recommendations are developed and submitted to the customer to reduce and maintain their level of risk. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- For each of the major commercial lines of businesses provided, the ability to assess the level of risk for customers with a Hazard Index rating of Very High (10) with coaching and a rating of High (7-9) with minimal or no coaching.
This includes assessing the operations, identifying the potential loss-producing conditions and practices as well as the presence and effectiveness of controls. Consult with underwriters on the conditions identified and complete written risk assessments in accordance with internal quality assessment guidelines. - Analyze the loss history of accounts to identify loss sources, and trends in accident frequency and severity, reach meaningful conclusions from the analyses, and provide a clear summary of those analyses to customers, agents, and underwriters. When applicable, develop effective risk reduction recommendations and/or ongoing risk management objectives.
- Provide ongoing risk management services for customers in need of risk management support and strive to ensure customer's level of risk is being adequately managed.
- Develop effective and ongoing communication with internal business partners and agents to ensure the conveyance of timely information for new and renewal business opportunities as well as consultative communication with customers. Prepare professionally
- Efficiently manage work scheduling in order to meet both internal and external customer needs.
- Prepare and present moderate-level technical presentations and risk management training programs to internal and external customers on a variety of risk management topics and issues.
- Familiar with risk management techniques and technology, earns and maintains designations through self-education and training programs. This includes the application of nationally recognized codes and standards as well as appropriate state regulations in reducing the level of risk for customers.
- Participate in training and mentoring of less experienced team members, which can include but is not limited to, underwriting onboarding (in partnership with RM and UW), RM trainee training/onboarding, and new hire onboarding. Support other regions if capacity permits (virtual surveys, onboarding & training)
- Support profitability & growth including conducting welcome calls to new insureds to discuss value-added services. This also involves performing refresher calls to existing customers who may have experienced an increase in exposure and/or claims. Additionally, collaborate with the claims department for follow-up calls after a claim occurs. Following up on Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) onsite inspection reports and addressing Claims Risk Characteristics reports are also part of the responsibilities. Providing critical recommendation follow-up & assistance is necessary, along with conducting desktop reviews (triage) for high-value builder's risk or properties. Serving as an account coordinator and participating in regional projects are also included.
- To support innovation, it is important to promote and apply the Risk Management Center (RMC). Additionally, identifying and elevating ideas for new tools and service deliverables to Risk Management leadership is essential.
QualificationsKnowledge & Requirements- Ability to effectively communicate (in person & virtually) with customers and agents and encourage the implementation of risk management strategies to reduce the level of risk and the potential for loss.
- Ability to travel occasionally to the office and/or local customer visits when needed. Must be able to build effective business partnerships with internal team members and agents.
- Demonstrate an above-average proficiency in the usage of computer tools including; Internet research applications, Microsoft Office, work management system, eSelect tools, Cognos reports, various virtual meeting platforms, etc, with a strong attention to detail.
Education & Experience- Five years of relative experience is required.
- Good understanding of basic risk management techniques & technology for all the main lines of business.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills required.
- Knowledge of all value-added services and how to effectively position them as a value to our insureds
- Certified Praesidium Guardian (CPG) preferred, however, Ambassador level training is acceptable with demonstrated skill.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
