Job Summary: The California Community Foundation is looking for an experienced writer and editor to advance our mission of leading systemic change to strengthen Los Angeles communities. We seek a writer and editor with a strong understanding of how clearly communicating with multiple audiences is vital to the success of our programs. Experience as a reporter or editor at a news organization is preferred, as is previous work in media relations. The ability to collaborate on teams both within and outside the organization and ease in adapting to quickly evolving projects are essential. Deep knowledge of communities served by the foundation is also important.
Pertinent Information:
Starting salary range: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00/annually
This is a Full-Time, Exempt position located in Los Angeles, CA. The person in this position will be required to work in the office over their first 100 days. Following the first 100 days, staff have the flexibility to work two (2) days remotely. Mandatory in-office workdays are Tuesdays & Wednesdays.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Communications Responsibilities:
- Leading the development and implementation of communication strategies to enhance the organization's reputation and visibility.
- Developing communication plans and collateral for the roll out of key initiatives and programs.
- Crafting and overseeing the creation of content for various channels, including stories reporting on the work of CCF, news releases, social media, website content, talking points and other projects as needed.
- Oversee freelance writers, photographers, videographers and other contracted content creators.
- Draft and edit written communications, speeches and talking points for the CEO and CCF Leadership team as needed.
- Working with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, overseeing and supporting the development of website content, social media posts, and newsletters.
- Coordinating with internal teams and external partners and stakeholders to optimize communication protocols and content delivery processes.
- Proactively engaging with media outlets to enhance CCF's visibility and secure positive coverage.
- Managing all press requests and inquiries, crafting timely responses and coordinating interviews as needed.
- Strengthening media relationships and identifying opportunities for thought leadership positioning and earned media coverage.
- Monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of communication efforts, adjusting strategies as needed to optimize results.
General: As appropriate, assists other departments and works as a member of interdepartmental teams to ensure the effective and efficient operations of CCF. At all times, demonstrates cooperative behavior with supervisors and coworkers. Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills.

Job Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree required (any field)
- Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in an editorial role at a news organization. Experience in communications, at a non-profit organization or government.
- At least 2 years of experience in a management role is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Communication Skills: Superior written, verbal and presentation skills required. Ability to write, edit and copyedit creatively and persuasively, distilling complex concepts into easy-to-understand information. Ability to integrate film, video, audio and photography into compelling communications. Spanish, Mandarin or Vietnamese language proficiency is a plus.
Technology Skills: Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite WordPress is a plus.
Problem Solving Skills: Must be an efficient, well organized, detail-oriented, creative, energetic, flexible, problem-solver who can handle multiple requests and tasks. Strong service orientation necessary.
Management Skills: Ability to recruit, retain, motivate, and develop talented individuals and engage them in collaborative achievement of personal, departmental, and organizational goals. Ability to clearly communicate expectations and decisions, demonstrating good judgment and sensitivity.
Teamwork and General Skills: Ability to work well independently and as team member. Ability to take initiative and follow tasks through to completion. Ability to lead a cross functional team toward CCF's goals, leveraging each team member's skill set.
Working Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit and work at a desk for several hours at a time.
- Requires the ability to travel and attend meetings, presentations and events outside the office, which may require occasional use of a motor vehicle for transportation to other locations. Due to the nature of external appointments and/or responsibilities requiring travel to locations not easily accessible by public transportation, driving is an essential job responsibility for this position.
- This position is required to be available to speak with clients and/or others while away from the office and/or with clients and/or others located in other time zones outside Foundation business hours.
- Work may require weekends and/or extended workday.
- Punctuality and satisfactory attendance are essential functions of the job.
