Make Music Matter (MMM) is seeking dedicated volunteers to join its Board of Directors in a number of areas of expertise:
- Volunteer Board Member - Legal
- Volunteer Board Member - Human Resources
- Volunteer Board Member - Nonprofit Administration and Governance
- Volunteer Board Member - Fundraising
- Volunteer Board Member - Psychology / Global Mental Health
We are looking for individuals who share a passion for empowering diverse communities and making positive change through music.
As MMM is growing programming with Indigenous partners in Canada, we are seeking individuals with an Indigenous background or with close ties to Indigenous communities to fill at least one of the available Board member positions.
Members of the Board of Directors provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by MMM’s chief executive officer (CEO), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.
Specific Board member responsibilities include:
- Leadership, governance and oversight
- Serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO as s/he develops and implements MMM’s strategic plan
- Preparing for, attending, and conscientiously participating in regular Board meetings (currently once a month)
- Participating on a standing committee of the board and serving on ad-hoc committees or task forces as necessary
- Approving MMM’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
- Representing MMM to stakeholders; acting as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
- Engaging in identifying and securing necessary financial resources and partnerships
- Reviewing outcomes and metrics created for evaluating MMM’s impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics
- Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO
We expect each Board member to:
- Know MMM’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Respect all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization
- Honor our values of collaboration, innovation, adaptability, and sustainability
- Financially support MMM in a manner commensurate with one’s ability
Length of term: Three years, which may be renewed up to a maximum of three consecutive terms, pending approval of the board.
